EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. - (May 27, 2010) - History through legendary wartime aircraft and pride of the heroic veterans who flew them comes alive during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh on July 26-August 1 at Wittman Regional Airport, as the EAA Warbirds of America host their popular "Warbirds in Review" program for the ninth consecutive year.
In keeping with AirVenture 2010's "Salute to Veterans" theme, these twice-daily informal sessions held in the Warbirds area will not only delve into an aircraft's restoration, operation, and other aspects of owning a valued piece of history, but also spotlight veterans sharing stories about what it was like to fly the aircraft in combat or support the operation as a ground crew member. This year's lineup showcases a variety of renowned aircraft as well as pays tribute to and honors those who served.
Visitors in 2010 will see a major expansion and improvement to the Warbirds presentation areas courtesy of EAA's multi-year partnership with ScottsMiracle-Gro Company. Upgrades include a new display/presentation area for the "Warbirds in Review" daily program, a permanent "Veterans Tribute" area completed in time for the "Salute to Veterans" commemoration at AirVenture 2010, and enhancements to the Warbirds of America headquarters and merchandise buildings.
"As it has been in previous years, this year's Warbirds in Review program is a definite can't-miss attraction at AirVenture," said Bill Fischer, Warbirds of America executive director. "Aviation and history enthusiasts will marvel at the treasures on display and the stories told through the veterans who flew them - keeping their spirit alive throughout the years."
Warbirds in Review sessions take place at daily 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., with the exception of July 26 when sessions will be held at 10 a.m. and noon, followed by the "Scotts Warbird Alley" dedication that day. Admission to these programs is included with all AirVenture admissions and is part of one of the world's greatest annual gatherings of former military aircraft in one place.
