"It feels like a victory and we can always have bad weather situations," he said. "It was fair for everybody so why shouldn't I deserve the points? It was a legal race. I had prepared myself mentally to race today with full motivation, hoping that the weather wouldn't be bad. I was keeping it open for both options. It's not easy mentally to just wait here, being in the lead and seeing what is happening. Then it gets delayed and delayed but that's racing." Arch now moves to within a single championship point of Lamb and there are only 4 points separating him and defending champion Bonhomme…

Lyle Shelton died last month after a long illness. You could say that Lyle Shelton became an air-racing champion because of a missed flight. Shelton was a Naval Aviator in 1964 when he took a month's leave intending to travel around the world via space available military transportation. But, while in California after missing his flight to Hawaii, he came across an article in a magazine saying there was going to be an Inaugural Air Race in Reno. The idea of air racing intrigued him enough to abandon his journey and hop a ride to Nevada. He must have liked what he saw, because less than a year later he flew in his first air race…

Aviation Trivia of the Day by JP Santiago - During the Second World War one of the most powerful inline piston engines was the British Napier Sabre, 24-cylinder piston engine in an H-block layout (imagine 2 flat 12-cylinder engines on top of each other) that in its first versions developed 2,200 horsepower and its late-war versions developed as much as 5,000 horsepower. The Sabre powered the Hawker Typhoon and Tempest fighter bombers but the first aircraft to use Napier's innovative engine flew for only a short time before the start of the Second World War. During the interwar period there was considerable national rivalry in setting aviation world records, one of which was unlimited speed record.
