Storied 'Mitchell' bomber joins Corsairs at Sikorsky - CT POST
Like a ghost from the past, a B-25 Mitchell bomber will be among the score of historic aircraft that will gather for the Memorial Day weekend celebration at Sikorsky Memorial Airport called "Corsairs Over Connecticut."
The stars of the show will be five of the approximately 25, F4U Corsairs still in flying condition. But if aircraft had emotions, these blue bent-wing fighter-bombers will no doubt feel a kinship with the B-25, which also figured prominently in World War II's Pacific Theater.
The five Corsairs and the B-25 will join other historic fly-in aircraft at the event, including a C-54 used in the Berlin Airlift, a Vietnam-era Bell UH-1D "Huey," a T-28 radial-engine "Trojan" trainer, a DeHavilland Beaver floatplane and a Boeing CH-47 Chinook tandem-rotor helicopter, also from the Vietnam War era. ...
