Cherry Point Air Show: Military Families Happy to Bring Relief - WNCT
Thousands will be at the biggest air show in the state at Cherry Point this weekend. Military families who say they're happy to help bring business to the east.
"I've been to quite a few air shows, but this is one of the biggest ones here in uh eastern North Carolina," said Chuck Barr from New Bern.
Never failing to impress—the Blue Angels dropped jaws with their defying stunts.
"It's really cool just to watch them practice, too. And the kids really enjoy it. They've been screaming all day," said Kim Lindeman, the wife of a deployed Marine.
Spouses of deployed Marines were some of the first to arrive. They say during hard times like these - the air show is a relief.
"We're going to have good days and bad days and it's nice to have people that are going to be there for you," said Lindeman. ...

The Commemorative Air Force is a non-profit organization created to preserve historic planes. It currently has over eleven thousand members world wide. At the Wichita branch, named the Jayhawk Wing, there are two planes used to train pilots during the War. One is a PT-23, and the other is a twin engine Cessna Bobcat. Both were made in 1943.
The Jayhawk Wing wants to keep these planes in the air so future generations can appreciate them. ...

Mr. Charette had extensive military experience, having served domestically and overseas with the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team (ARCT), the 101st Airborne Division, the 1st Calvary Division, and Special Forces. Mr. Charette is a Charter Member of the US Army Parachute Team (Golden Knights). He was the first Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of the Special Forces Training Group High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) Committee, which included Fulton Recovery Systems (SKYHOOK) Operations. In 1961, he was selected to train the 22nd Special Air Service Regiment's military free fall cadre at Hereford, England. Mr. Charette was a member of the Joint Army/USAF HALO Test Team in the early 1960's that established much of the HALO training and operations doctrine still in use today. He also participated in the record breaking 43,500 foot jump to establish a world record "FAI Class G-II-C, group of nine with delayed fall". He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his participation ...
