Red Bull Air Force - Nascar News Update
Flight sports are littered with the sort of people who like tweaking: speak to anyone from air racing to hang-gliding to aerobatics and they'll talk endlessly about set-up. The summit of ambition is a machine that handles like it isn't there. "Like it's just a pair of wings strapped to my back," is the usual refrain. ...

Restored Lockheed P-38 "Glacier Girl" UP CLOSE Video Study from www.canadainsiderdeals.com
This is a close-up video study of the famous Lockheed P-38 "Glacier Girl" that was recovered from under 268 feet of glacier ice in Greenland in 1992. Most of the video was taken at the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, Calif. in March and April, 2007. The take-off sequence was taken at Palm Springs, Calif in 2005. The sound of this aircraft is TOTALLY unique from all other warbirds! If you'd like, also check out my other warbird videos. Thanks!

The Shot Heard Around The World from Ares
At 853 am local time, 50 years ago today, one of a salvo of three missiles from a V-750 surface-to-air missile battery located near Yekaterinburg (then named Sverdlovsk) exploded behind the tail of a Lockheed U-2 spyplane, at an altitude of 70,500 feet. Its tail damaged, the airplane spun out of control. Pilot Frank Powers was unhurt by the blast but could not eject, and finally managed to release the canopy and was thrown free, parachuting safely to earth.
Since July 1956, the Central Intelligence Agency's U-2s had performed dozens of carefully planned missions over ...

Flights & Fancy: Adventures in Pararescue - Air & Space Magazine
Some years back, at the end of a low-level training flight in marginal weather, my flight of two Navy TA-4J Skyhawks landed at Naval Air Facility El Centro in California and encountered a microburst from a nearby thunderstorm. The wind proved too much for the little jets, and following a long, sideways skid, both came to rest just off the north side of the runway.
As I climbed down into the slick, sticky desert mud, I noticed, not 30 yards away, the lead A-4 lying on its side in a concrete drainage ditch. I stood in the deepening quagmire and squinted through raindrops the size of Ping-Pong balls, certain that something bad had happened to the other student and his instructor. Then the student walked around the nose of his jet, scowled, ripped his helmet from his head, and slammed it down on the ground. I hardly noticed. I was just glad he was okay. ...
