Taking to the Holloman AFB skies from Diamond Pilots
Stunt pilot John Klatt gives a thumbs-up as he flies an Extra 300L upside-down in the skies over Santa Teresa on Wednesday morning. Klatt will fly and perform stunts in another plane, a Staudacher S-300D, during the Holloman Air Force Base Open House, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. (J.R. Oppenheim/Daily News)
Loops, inverted formations, and torque rolls are just the beginning of the flight pattern presented by Lt. Col. John Klatt, who flies air shows for the Air National Guard and will be part of the Holloman Air Force Base open house Saturday.
The open house, "Raptors and Reapers over the Southwest," invites the community to visit Holloman. Klatt will provide one of the civilian aerial performances for the day.
Klatt never gets bored with flying. He not only flies the little Staudacher S-300D in air shows across the country, he also flies the F-16 Fighting Falcon for the Air National Guard, completing three combat tours in Iraq and works a weekday job with a national air-carrier. ...

USAF re-orients frustrated jamming strategy
By Stephen Trimble/Washington DC
The US Air Force has dramatically changed the focus of a frustrated, decade-long attempt to revitalize its ability to jam radars and communications systems.
After abandoning a second attempt earlier this year to convert some Boeing B-52Hs into standoff jamming platforms, the USAF investment strategy has shifted to fielding less expensive "stand-in" systems that could be delivered within a few years.
"In this new environment, as we look at this fiscally-constrained world, we've got to figure out how to do it with less money, but we also have to figure out how to do it faster," Maj Gen David J. Scott, air staff requirements director, said 20 October. ...
