Sunday Show Cancelled - Florida International Air Show
The Sunday Florida International Air Show was canceled today because of a storm at the airport. A heavy rain with lighting passed through Punta Gorda and the airport about 9:30 AM and continued for over two hours. Air Show board members made the decision about 11:45.
As the storm neared the show site, air conditioned buses were moved onto the tarmac for patrons who were on site. After the heavy rain let up, they were invited to the show's upgrade tents for lunch.
This was the first cancellation of the show in several years.

Air show excites patriotic hearts - Sarasota Herald-Tribune
Patriotism was on display in the skies and on the ground Saturday at Charlotte County's annual air show.
Around midday, former Green Beret Paul McGowan parachuted down and unfurled a massive 5,000-square-foot American flag as two T-6 planes made circles of smoke around him. The jump was greeted by thunderous applause, followed by the playing of the national anthem.

Hanadi Al-Hindi, one of the "100 Greatest Women in Aviation" from You Fly, Girl
A story of great courage and indeed heroism for Hanadi Zakaria Al-Hindi. In Saudia Arabia, women aren't allowed to drive a car, let alone pilot a plane. But Hanadi, like Bessie Coleman a little less than a century ago, did not let the naysayers stop her, and travelled to a different country to pursue her ambition. (And unlike Bessie Coleman, Hanadi's life could actually be in danger because of her refusal to conform to female stereotypes in Muslim countries like Saudi. Who knows when some fanatic Saudi might not decide Hanadi needs to be taught a lesson before she "infects" other Saudi women?  ...

Soaring history returns - Examiner
An important part of Tasmania's aviation history is being brought back to life, reports SHELLEY SPENCER. PETER Johnson was a pilot for 36 years but he did not start flying until his father, Lawrence, who was a pioneer Australian aviator, died in 1958.
"Dad never saw me in the air," Peter said.
Peter, like his father, flew all types of aircraft from Tiger Moths, Austers and Cessnas to an Airbus 320.
Lawrence McKenzie Johnson's legacy has been kept alive by his family, who met at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Launceston last week.
His grandson Andrew Johnson is the museum's exhibition co-ordinator, who is in charge of displaying his grandfather's first Desoutter monoplane, Miss Flinders. ...

Q&A with Andrew Brookes, Aerospace Analyst and Writer from Flight Image of the Day
Andrew Brookes's Royal Air Force career included command of Greenham Common cruise missile base. Since leaving the service he has been an aerospace analyst and writer and in 2009 he took charge of the Air League.
What turned you on to flying? | I learned to fly with Leeds University Air Squadron back when sex was safe and flying was dangerous. We flew from Dishforth alongside the A1 and I spent many lovely hours doing practice forced landings and aeros over the Vale of York. We did lots of stalling and spinning back then but young people don't seem to do that any more. I think it is a shame that you can't experience the thrill and sense of danger associated with getting to know your limits based on first-rate flying training. I am still in touch with my old ex-Javelin instructor and we now reminisce together as the old and bold always do....
