DAV Flight Team honors B-25 Mitchell Tribute to the Doolittle Raiders

Dayton, Ohio -- Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the non-profit organization dedicated to helping wounded veterans, will be participating in the B-25 Gathering at Grimes Field being held as part of the Doolittle Raiders’ Reunion taking place on April 15-18 at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB.  DAV Flight Team Pilot, Larry Kelley has played an important role in the coordination of the 68th Reunion of the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders.  “It is fitting that we honor our nation’s wounded veterans with this extraordinary event,” said Larry Kelley, B-25 pilot and owner.

The DAV Airshow Outreach Program was developed to increase public awareness of disabled veterans and to serve veterans in communities across the nation. Using B-25 medium bombers, the program reminds the public of the sacrifices veterans have made and continue to make to keep our nation free.

Now, in its eighth season, the DAV Airshow Outreach Program appears nationwide at over 25 airshows and reaches over 3 million airshow spectators annually in an effort to promote the DAV’s mission of building better lives for America’s disabled veterans.

The B-25 Bomber enjoys the reputation of achieving the impossible during one of America’s darkest hours in World War II.  The medium size bomber was made famous by the daring Doolittle Raid on Tokyo which helped rally America after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.  The B-25 went on to become the most versatile bomber of World War II, seeing combat in every theater of operation.

“The DAV is thrilled to bring our message of volunteerism and support to our nation’s sick and disabled veterans to this event. We believe the men, women and children who will visit this event are the patriotic, military-friendly citizens that have helped make this nation so great,” said DAV National Commander Roberto Barrera. “The DAV is proud to be among this crowd, and meet those who want to know more about our service to veterans.”

Visitors to the Champaign Aviation Museum at historic Grimes Field in Urbana on April 15-16 can learn more about DAV by visiting its fully interactive display at the historic Grimes Field.  DAV representatives will be on hand with information about the organization’s free services to veterans and their families.
