First, the fly-over: Didn't leave early enough from Indianapolis? Got stuck in the traffic trying to get in? Watching the B-25s take off over the top of your car while your daughter keeps taking photos of the door frame of the car? NO PROBLEM! Pull into the parking lot of the hotel across the street from the base and camp out! Turns out that was a great twist of fate. The B-25s literally flew right over the top of where we parked. Most of my photos didn't turn out very well, though. So, here's all we can offer.
The Doolittle Memorial in the Memorial Garden on the grounds. I went back out later in the day, as well. This place is humbling. There's a statue there dedicated to just about every type of pilot, maintenance tech and other support personnel. There was also a plaque there dedicated to every flight nurse - past, present and future. And if you care to read the inscription:
