F-22 wows Chile air show from The DEW Line
The US Air Force dispatched the F-22 earlier this week to the Chilean air show FIDAE. I normally look for hidden agendas as the F-22 trots around the globe -- ie, is the Dubai appearance a show of force to Iran? Is the Paris no-show a political snub? Etc. But I think the Santiago show is a case where the official pretext overwhelms any unofficial subtext, if you will. So just sit back, relax and enjoy the show! Thanks to williamacro for posting video on YouTube.

Airshow horror: RMAF to conduct thorough probe (Update) from thestar.com.my
The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will carry out a thorough investigation to determine whether engine failure or human error was the cause of the fatal accident involving its Pilatus PC-7 MK II aircraft during an airshow in Kedah.
Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latif Ahmad said he did not want to jump the gun and speculate on the cause of the accident despite an amateur recording of it posted on YouTube showed a small explosion occurring before the pilot ejected from the plane.
"The investigation will be carried out by the RMAF's Board of Investigation in a professional manner to determine whether the incident was due to engine failure or human error," he told reporters after presenting a haemodialysis machine to the Terendak Army Camp Hospital here Friday. ...

The B-25: Always a Good Show from AviationBull
From a purely aviation operations perspective, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was a masterpiece of planning and execution. The retaliatory Doolittle Raid was perhaps less impressive planning and more an awesome display of guts and innovation. I have a special place in my heart for the Raiders, especially those of the 34th Bomb Squadron. As such, I always love to watch B-25s fly. ...

Lockheed Martin: We will, we will rock you from The DEW Line
Who says only the Israelis can rock  a marketing video?
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics house band Into the Blues All Stars does its best late-90s power-rock imitation in this new marketing video posted by the company on YouTube today. This might be the first arms industry advertisement I've seen that could double as a rock video.
Spotters, take note. Lockheed included what might be a never-seen-before clip of a simulated F-35C catapult launch.

LAX Police Create Honor Guard for Fallen Soldiers from Things with Wings
Late one night, I had a bout of insomnia, and found myself channel surfing.  I happened to come across the HBO movie "Taking Chance," the story of a Marine officer escorting the remains of Lance Cpl. Chance Phelps home to Dubois, Wyoming.  I am an Air Force brat, the daughter and granddaughter of officers, so I always have a warm spot in my heart for all things military.
As I took a spin through my Google reader, I saw this story -- "Airport Police officer commended for creating honor guard for return of fallen soldiers' remains" -- in the The Argonaut.   Airport Police officer Thomas Dye created a unit of his fellow officers, the Los Angeles Airport Police Honor Guard Detail, where they stand in  ...
