Fascinating 1959 Farnborough Video: A Brave New World! by Martt | I've purposely posted part 2 of this video first cuz it has the most flying action, and it's some pretty amazing flying action at that!  After a glimpse of a unique hovercraft, we see the fabulous, tailless, Avro Vulcan bomber take off.  But even more important to me is just how close some of the people are to the flying going on.  This was a fantastic era, one I wish very much that we stilled lived in today.  When that Vulcan takes off, there are about 20 people, probably associated with the event, standing in the grass along the runway… one guy about 20 feet from the edge of the runway! …

Aircraft recycling from Bayou Renaissance Man by Peter | I found this video on YouTube, showing how old USAF and USN aircraft are cannibalized for parts to keep other aircraft flying, and eventually scrapped. I found the process interesting, and thought you might too. It's sad to see an aircraft meet its end like this; but I guess, like ships, they have to go sometime! At least AMARG sees to it that they meet useful ends, keeping other planes in the air. Peter

On This Day in Aviation History: March 12th by Phil Derner Jr. | Continental increases their Boeing 787 order to 25 in 2008, Southwest grounds 44 aircraft for inspection, an Air Vietnam DC-4 is shot down, Northwest Flight 4422 crashes, EWR gets some new landing aid equipment, Atlantic Southeast is founded and more.

Aviation Trivia of the Day by JP Santiago | When the McDonnell F-4 Phantom II was conceived, it was for the role of fleet air defense but McDonnell wisely made it strong enough to carry a sizeable bombload, a hold over from a previous design incarnation of the Phantom that was optimized for strike missions. Once the first F-4Bs headed out to the fleet, the avionics of the new fighter were geared around air defense but it did have a bombing computer- one for nuclear "toss-bombing" and one that many Phantom crews in Southeast Asia found wholly inadequate for the strike mission they were called upon to perform in the mid-1960s as the Vietnam War escalated. Many squadrons lacked any air-to-ground training and some were lucky just to get triple-ejector racks (TERs) or multiple-ejector racks (MERs) to improve their bomb-carrying capacity.

Pilot killed after plane crashes into Chandler building - CHANDLER, AZ | One person was killed in a plane crash at a Chandler airport when a plane smashed into a hangar and office building and exploded. The crash happened around 1:20 p.m. Thursday at Stellar Airpark, near Chandler Boulevard and McClintock Drive. The pilot of the P51 Mustang died at the scene.  The single engine, World War II-era plane is a rare airplane built in 1944. "It is an amazing plane, the engine has a very distinct sound and people around here knew it and the pilot well," said Joe Martin, who was a close friend of the victim and a manager of the airport…
