Classic Fighters 2011 event from AeroHub by Graeme | Whilst still well over a year away, it seems that a lot of people in many countries are already making the Classic Fighters 2011 event the target of their focus! Locally, this has manifested itself with meetings already underway by the airshow committee (since last October) and plans by some of the ground theatre and props team members already being put into place. At the other end of the scale, inquiries are coming in from people the world over concerning ticket purchases, transport, accommodation etc. (many have already booked their accommodation!!), and of course, what displays will be seen and what aircraft are going to be in attendance. Even this far out it is possible to say that if all the plans come to fruition, the line-up for the 2011 Classic Fighters event will be better than anything we've ever been privileged to host before…

Starfighter pilots' view from David Cenciotti's weblog - the most visited Italian Aviation Blog by David Cenciotti | In the last days I had the opportunity to watch the last two DVDs dedicated to the F-104 produced by Pro-Wing International; those filmed in October 2004 that focus on the very last days of the F-104 at Grazzanise, the airbase where the (operative) career of the Starfighter ended on Oct. 31, 2004. Respectively titled "F-104EVER: the last STAR fighter" and ""THE LEGEND: Eternal Star", the two DVDs represent the two episodes of an extremely interesting movie produced by Luc Delestinne, the famous aviation film maker and producer whose Pilot's View® mini-cameras among the few ones in the world to be "flight-safety approved", meaning that they can be even attached to the pilot's helmets or masks to provide some of the most dramatic in-flight views ever seen.

Video: Rotary Powered Sopwith Camel In Formation With A Spitfire by Martt |  If you're in a hurry, jump up to the 2:30 mark in the video to see the Sopwith's rotary engine started.  It's like a 160hp rabid animal attached to the front of the airplane!  You kinda get the feeling that the engine is the crazy master here, and the best you can do is not make it mad!  Actually it looks very cool, but you can sure see how much of a challenge operating an engine without a normal throttle is... especially one that weighs 345 pounds and spins with the prop!..

Curtiss P-40, aircraft of the Flying Tigers from Flying Tigers News | Here's a great video showing a Curtiss P-40C the warpaint of the Flying Tigers--the American Volunteer Group that flew and fought for the Chinese Air Force in the early months of World War II in the Pacific. The video is by "Captain Lou" Costello. Don't you just love the sound of that Allison engine? All right, perhaps you don't, but I am so addicted that I sometimes leave the sound running in the background while I work on mundane chores…

Some production of the Hurricane was carried out in Canada by the Canada Car and Foundry Co Ltd. Although largely overshadowed by the Supermarine Spitfire, the aircraft became renowned during the Battle of Britain. The 1930s design evolved through several versions and adaptations, resulting in a series of aircraft which acted as interceptor-fighters, fighter-bombers (also called "Hurribombers"), and ground support aircraft…

Aviation Trivia of the Day by JP Santiago | It's a travel nightmare. Weather delays and closures at airports during peak travel seasons. It was no different in the past than it is now with air travel when we're at the mercy of the weather despite the advances in technology since the end of the Second World War ushered in unprecedented growth in air travel. Picture in your mind it's the start of the 1962 Christmas holiday travel season and one of the primary airports on the US West Coast, San Francisco, is socked in with fog so thick that anything more than ball toss away fades into the murk. Fog at San Francisco International is nothing new, but this particular week in 1962 the fog stubbornly persisted throughout the holiday season. Flights were delayed or canceled and passengers were stranded at San Francisco International Airport. Unless, of course, you're booked on Pacific Southwest Airlines, PSA…
