The Black Daggers are the official U.S. Army Special Operations Command Parachute Demonstration Team. Their mission is to perform live aerial demonstrations in support of Army Special Operations community relations and recruiting. Comprised of volunteers from throughout Army Special Operations the Black Daggers have diverse backgrounds and are skilled in various military specialties including Special Forces, Rangers, civil affairs, psychological operations and signal and support. ...the Red Checkers, has been grounded for the second time in six weeks after two planes clipped during flight training.
The squadron had been training again for only three weeks since being grounded in January after the death of Squadron Leader Nick Cree.
Mr Cree, 32, died on January 14 when his CT-4E Airtrainer crashed in a sand dune at Santoft, west of Bulls, as he practised an aerobatic manoeuvre.
It is not yet known what caused that crash.
The five-plane team of experienced pilots, who routinely fly in formation just one metre apart, was training about 9.30am yesterday when the canopy of one clipped the wheels of another as they were moving between formations.
The pilots managed to land safely but one aircraft's canopy was damaged. ...

Beginning March 3, EAA will offer a regular series of "webinars," which will feature a range of speakers on a wide variety of aviation topics. The first presentation, "Design and Development of the B-17," will be held on Wednesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. Central Time. Host Sean Elliot, EAA's director of aircraft cperations, is one of the few pilots qualified to fly the famous B-17 Flying Fortress.

This year the Club will hold it's Aviation Open Day on Saturday 27th March, 2010. This date is also a rest day in Masterton for the Air Safari, so we're hoping to entice a few to bring their planes over to Wellington for the day.
We've booked the following static displays so far in addition to club planes: Catalina PBY, Air NZ 737 & ATR, P40 Kittyhawk and a J31 from Vincent Aviation. Lifeflight will bring their chopper over (pending no call outs), the Metro will park up for most of the day, Airport Rescue Fire will bring the every popular fire engine across (undoubtedly the biggest attraction for the kids) and of course Helipro will be selling joy rides.
Also being negotiated at the moment is a visit by the Southern Trust DC3 which will provide a rare opportunity to go for a scenic flight in this remarkable aircraft ZK-AMY
