Ghost-field visit/blog/report. from Gary Watson's Posts - Stick and Rudder by Gary Watson | After reading about the Americans stay at Goxhill in Sid Finns book, 'The Lincolnshire air war' many years ago, I've wanted to see for myself and explore this 'ghostfield' for sometime, and I got my chance this weekend, whilst, on my way to Pocklington and Elvington in Yorkshire. Reached, best off the A15 via Barrow-on-Humber, it's a case of going through Barrow-on Humber village, until you see the 'Goxhill' 2 miles sign, and making a right-turn down a cart-track- wide lane untill you come to a 'T-Junction' a which point you come face to face, with an airfield defence 'bunker/pill-box' type thing, at the junction. And to your right is the 'Goxhill memorial', taking care to park across the road from the memorial, as someone has gone to great lengths to plant spring-bulbs, in the forground of the memorial.
