If yesterday was any indication about what to expect, we are in for a doozy of a day on Sunday.
Here is a quick summary of our experiences yesterday and this morning:
- In the pits: Lots of great conversation. Some very nice nuggets of information which we hope to investigate further. Met a lot of great people - all the great personalities that make an event like this worth visiting. These are the people that breathe the life and personality into the planes we've come to admire. Without their ability to transfer their love and passion for their sport into you, this becomes nothing more than a collection of aviation machines.
- Blue Angels: The Blues did not perform their entire routine yesterday. Blue Angel #1 had some kind of mechanical (at least that was what I heard through the rumor mill - nothing confirmed) and called a "knock it off".
- Unlimiteds: Shame on me, but I didn't get to see a lot yesterday. I spent a lot of time goofing off, talking to people...oh, and helped the Live Air Show TV crew some with set-up for their Sunday broadcast - but I can tell you that Polar Bear held off American Beauty in the Bronze race, and in the Gold, Steve Hinton Jr. appeared to have been nudged out of a first place finish at the very end of the race by Czech Mate(? - need to confirm). Turned out that there was a pylon cut, so Steve won the race, Czech Mate was sent back to 5th place with the penalty.
- Breaking News: We'll try and get more details later, but Formula One racer Adrian Cooper just crashed while trying to land after this morning's race. He was able to stand afterwards, but looked very shook up. He was transported to the hospital to be checked out. Adrian's plane, Miss T'witchie cart-wheeled when it appeared the wind tipped his wing on landing.
