The very first flying car from AOPA Pilot Blog: Reporting Points by Al Marsh
Glenn Curtiss gets credit for attempting the
first flying car in 1917 with his Autoplane that married a car looking like a skinny Ford Model T with a biplane–make that triplane. Congratulations to Aerofiles.com for finding those photos and drawings. The car, patented in 1919, was capable of short hops. In today’s terminology we think of a short hop as a 25-mile flight to get a hamburger. These hops reached an altitude measured in inches and a distance measured in feet. If you think the Curtiss company is long gone, meet today’s Curtiss Wright, the company formed in 1929 with the merger of 12 Wright and Curtiss affiliated companies.

With a planned range of 4000 miles and space for 12 passengers this plane is touted as a 'Concorde' replacement. I fail to see how a passenger aircraft with only 12 seats is a replacement for a plane that could carry up to 120 passengers.

Some Toronto airshow pictures - Ah, cult of the military industrial complex, how I love thee… We were at the CNE today (I’ll post about that tomorrow if I do — it’s been a very long day, because after the CNE I spent an hour and a half dragging three girls around at the pool), and most of the day included jets roaring over our heads — aerobatic teams from the US Navy, and the Canadian military as well, plus shows with an F-22 and much more. We even got to see a condensation “bubble” form around one of the jets as it went trans...
