Mojave Fly-In 2009 from Mach14 by Kdog
This was the first time I have been to this small fly-in at Mojave. It wasn’t the best for flying planes, but it did have some very beautiful planes on the ground. Some of the nicest included a T-28, F-86, Fouga Magister, and two F-16’s. Also they had the Rocket Racers’ modified Long-eze’s there. There were also two air racers there which were Nemesis and the newly re-done Wasabi. Overall it was a nice little show where I got to see some cool planes I hadn’t seen before. Camarillo Airshow 2009 from Mach14 by Kdog
This year was the most amazing year yet by far. They really loaded the show with tons of warbirds including two P-38’s, F7F, F6F, F8F, P-51, B-25, Corsair, Zero, Spitfire, Rare NA-50 Replica, C-47, and some T-28’s and T6’s. Also to start the show they had some fly-bys by a Paris Jet. The Pilatus Porter did a demonstration and so did the blue and yellow RESCUE Huey. Also, some very old planes that flew were PT-22’s and PT19’s. The homebuilts included two Glassairs and two Lancair 360’s. Also they had a turbine Stallion fly a few passes with a vintage Howard. Formations included a five plane Navion formation and a 4 plane CJ-6 formation that flew in formation with the B-25. Again, this year’s show was by far the best and I hope you enjoy the pictures!!! Prize For Human-Powered Rotary Flight Rises To $250,000 from AVwebFlash Current Issue
Prizes have done much through the last 100 years or so to spur aviation innovation, from Lindbergh's Orteig Prize to today's X Prize competitions, but sometimes if the prize is not quite enticing enough, it doesn't really do the job. That seems to be what the folks at Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. have decided, since they recently announced a dramatic change in the prize money for the Igor I. Sikorsky Human-Powered Helicopter Competition, from $20,000 to $250,000. The prize, which goes to the first human-powered helicopter that can hover at least 10 feet off the ground for 60 seconds, was first offered almost 30 years ago and has never been claimed. The best effort so far was by Prof. Akira Naito of Nihon University in Japan, who achieved an altitude of just over 6 inches and flight duration of 19.46 seconds. (Click through to see it on video.) A team at CalTech got into the air for 8 seconds at a height of 8 inches.
