PHOTOGRAPHING AIRPLANES & AIRSHOWS
With Bob Burns

When: May 30, 2009 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (break for lunch)

Where: Marriott East, 21st & Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis & Mt Comfort Airport (MQJ), Mt Comfort, IN

Price: $39.97/person

Spend an exciting Saturday w/Roberts Staff & special guests learning how to photograph Airplanes & Air Shows.

First you’ll attend a 9:00-11:00 AM seminar on “Photographing Airplanes & Air Shows” presented by Bob Burns, a published photographer, who has been taking pictures of airplanes and air shows for over 50 years.

After the seminar you'll have time for lunch on your own. We’ll meet at Mt. Comfort Airport at 12:45 and hook up with Ted Brindle (Photo Team Chairman of the Indpls Air Show) and several pilots. This is a rare opportunity as they take us to the hangers to see their planes and weather permitting, they will fly their planes around the airport for us to photograph.

SEMINAR DESCRIPTION
Some of the subjects to be covered in the seminar are:

* Equipment & items to bring
* Shooting static aircraft inside & out
* Shooting aircraft in flight
* Photo Shop tips & tricks
* Saving & printing images
* Questions & answers

EQUIPMENT TO BRING
Attendees should bring their cameras with a couple of BLANK memory cards. If you're using a DSLR/SLR consider a wide angle zoom & tele zoom or a wide to tele zoom like an 18-250 for DSLR or 28-200/300 for film bodies. You might consider a macro lens for close ups of details. Bring a flash for shots inside the hangers or for fill flash outside. In the event of bad weather you might want to have a plastic bag or water resistant case to put your camera in.

BOB BURNS BIO
Bob BurnsBob has been around & interested in airplanes since age 4 and his first flight in a Ford Tri-motor at Terre Haute’s Hulman Field. After joining the Air Force in 1952, while serving overseas, he began saving to purchase a Leica camera, and this started his photographing airplanes for fun. Later he worked for the Martin Aircraft Company and then NASA for 34 years. Bob figures he’s had over 2 million miles of world travel, with most of the flight time in NASA, and military aircraft. One of his more unusual assignments was for NAVAL PROCEEDINGS magazine that included trips on 7 different US Navy aircraft carriers. These positions gave him time and opportunity to build a collection of 40,000 images, about half being digital. His images have appeared in NASA publications & numerous aircraft publications, and he continues to shoot for several aircraft businesses. A recent addition to his Bio has been an assignment for the Smithsonian’s AIR & SPACE magazine, along with a Photo Gallery on their web site, devoted to his aviation photos.

PILOT THANK YOU

Since the pilots/owners of the planes are donating their time, planes and the flight fuel we are asking the attendees to allow us to copy their aircraft pictures so each pilot can select a favorite image to be printed by Roberts as a “Thank You” for their efforts.
