Wednesday May 6, 2009 Smithsonian Author/Photographer Carolyn Russo to Present at Norman Camera Carolyn Russo is a museum specialist and senior photographer at the National Air and Space Museum. Her experience as an author includes magazine publications and three books: Artifacts of Flight, Women and Flight: Portraits of Contemporary Women Pilots and In Plane View: Abstractions of Flight. "In Plane View" is also an exhibition that premiered at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum and is on a national tour from 2009 - 2012. Carolyn Russo will discuss "The Book Making Process" of In Plane View: Abstractions of Flight at Norman Camera Friday, May 8th from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. This informal presentation will provide future authors a practical approach to professional book publishing. Topics discussed in the session will include elements of a successful book proposal, approaching book publishers, and post-publication marketing techniques from the web to exhibitions. "In Plane View" Exhibit by Carolyn Russo at the Air Zoo On May 8, the Air Zoo will be opening "In Plane View" to the public, which is an exhibition of 56 large- format photographs by Carolyn Russo. The exhibit showcases the aesthetic quality of some of the National Air and Space Museum's iconic aircraft. With up-close facets, sculptural forms, and life-like elements, "In Plane View" directs viewers' attention to the often-overlooked simple elegance of aircraft design.
