Spend this Memorial Day weekend at The Museum of Flight! In addition to the great exhibits, the Museum has a variety of programs this weekend including live theater, military aircraft fly-ins, family activities, a Tuskegee Airmen program, and a Memorial Day concert and ceremony--there is something that everyone in the family will enjoy! Cascade Warbirds Fly-In
Saturday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The annual Cascade Warbirds Fly-In brings a wide variety of beautifully restored vintage military aircraft representing several nations' armed forces from World War II through the Vietnam conflict. Operating under the motto "keep 'em flying," the Cascade Warbirds work to preserve history by maintaining important military aircraft. The aircraft will be displayed on the Museum parking lot. Flight crews will be present to answer questions.
Amazing Skies Theater Presents "CanadiYanks"
Saturday, 23, 2 p.m. in the William M. Allen Theater
"CanadiYanks" is based upon the true story of Canadian Major Harold E. Hartney, who transferred to the American army in 1917 to prepare "Yank" airmen for service on the Front. This original, one-act play also spins the bittersweet yarn of a young American couple, Malcolm Gunn and Marge Van Sciver, who must confront the worst possible tragedy of war. This is also based on a true story. Music for the show will be sung by the Alpha Singers, a local choral group who have been performing in the Northwest for over 20 years. Bank of America Weekend Family Workshop: Call It Destiny--A Science Lab in Space
Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. What would it be like to do science experiments in space? Visitors will learn about the Destiny module--the United States' orbiting laboratory that is a major component of the International Space Station--and then construct their own Destiny module!
Tuskegee Airmen Panel
Sunday, May 24, 2-3:30 p.m. in the William M. Allen Theater
The Tuskegee Airmen were America's first African-American military airmen. A special panel of three World War II Tuskegee Airman veterans will be at the Museum to talk about their experiences flying long range missions to Berlin during the War. The panel will be moderated by local Tuskegee Airman and former fighter pilot, Bill Holloman. The panelists are Lt. Col. Charles A. Lane, USAF (Ret); Lt. Col. Hiram E. Mann, USAF (Ret) and Major Levi H. Thornhill, USAF (Ret). An autograph session follows the program.
Memorial Day Program
Monday, May 25, Noon in the Side Gallery
Continuing a tradition first established in 1999, the Museum is pleased to honor those who have given their lives in the service of their country. The Boeing Employees Concert Band will set the stage by performing patriotic music beginning at noon. A ceremony begins at 1p.m. presided by Museum President and CEO Dr. Bonnie J. Dunbar. Special guests during the ceremony include Tuskegee Airmen Lt. Col Charles A. Lane, USAF (Ret); Lt. Col. Hiram E. Mann, USAF (Ret) and Maj. Levi H. Thornhill, USAF (Ret). City of Tukwila Mayor Jim Haggerton will also take part in the program. An autograph session follows the ceremony.
The Museum's Memorial Day program is generously supported by the City of Tukwila. Veterans and current U.S. military personnel receive free admission to the Museum on Monday, May 25 with ID.
B-17 Bomber Flights and Tours
Saturday, May 23, Sunday May 24, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Aluminum Overcast, the Experimental Aircraft Association's restored B-17, returns to the Seattle skies and the Museum of Flight from Wednesday, May 20 - Monday, May 25. The Museum is hosting this historic aircraft during its Seattle stop along a national "Salute to the Veterans" tour.
