From hands-on fun and experiments to speaking one-on-one with accomplished woman scientists and aviators, the Air Zoo's Girls Science Academy camp is set to be an exciting educational program. And thanks to 5/3 Bank, scholarships will be available to girls who might not have been able to afford the camp.
"The Air Zoo and 5/3 Bank understand the financial stress that many families are going through right now," says Cindy Scheuer, curator of education and public programming at the Air Zoo, "We want girls to be able to come out, have fun and learn about all the fantastic things they can do with a career in science or aviation. We want to thank 5/3 for this scholarship that will hopefully help girls reach their dreams."
The Girls Science Academy is a day camp that will run August 24-28 and is open to young girls ages 9 to 14. To apply for one of the 15 scholarships, girls must write a 500-word essay explaining why they are applying for a scholarship to the Girls Academy and discuss past experiences that have lead to their interest in aviation, science and technology. ...

Members of A Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines will get a chance to reminisce as they tour the Air Zoo from 1 – 5 p.m. The group served together from 1942 to 1944 in places such as Guadalcanal and Peleliu. They will be traveling to Kalamazoo from as far away as Florida and California. After their Air Zoo tours, the group will return to the museum at 7 p.m. for a dinner banquet. ...
