National Bi-Plane Fly-In Headed to Junction City - Vintage aircraft will fill the skies of East-Central Kansas this weekend. The National Bi-Plane Fly-In will take place in Junction City. Bi-Planes from throughout the United States will participate in the event at Freeman Field. Some will begin arriving Thursday evening for the event, which is scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The public will be able to get up close to a variety of Bi-Planes and speak with the pilots. Bi-Plane rides will be available for a fee. In addition to the Bi-Planes, informational booths, seminars and food will be on-site. Starting at 7:00 Saturday morning the Cris Cakes Company will demonstrate why they are the home of the "World Record Pancake Flipper." The public is also invited to a pancake feed.

'Fly-in BBQ' ready to soar - Fort Frances Airport - A tradition now in its 11th year, the "Fly-in, Drive-in BBQ" will take place this Saturday (June 5) at the Fort Frances Airport. The event, which has become a major fundraiser for the 908 Rainy Lake Air Cadet Squadron, once again is expected to feature pilots from this area, Thunder Bay, and Manitoba flying in for the day. There also will be antique cars, motorcycles, and radio-controlled planes for people to see. Bruce Caldwell, who has organized the event since its inception, said it always had been held on the second Saturday in September…

Aviation Trivia of the Day by JP Santiago | Though renowned German aircraft designer Alexander Lippisch is better known for his delta wing designs and the tailless Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet rocket interceptor, one of his more innovative and unusual designs lacked wings altogether. At the end of the Second World War, Lippisch was one of many German engineers brought the United States under Operation Paperclip (rocket scientist Werner von Braun perhaps being one of the more famous engineers of Operation Paperclip). After spending several years consulting with Convair on his delta wing work that would result in the XF-92, the F-102 Delta Dagger, F-106 Delta Dart and B-58 Hustler, he joined American Collins Radio in 1950 to head its small aeronautical division in Iowa…
