Blue Thunder Announces List Of Dare Devils To Join Blue Angels - KIFI Idaho Falls
The Blue Angels will be joined by a stellar group of performers for the Blue Thunder Air Show, July 24-25.
The performers include Matt Younkin, Kyle and Amanda Franklin and USAF F-16 Viper East Coast Demonstration Team.
Two of the dare devils to also make the list are local favorites, MiG Fury Fighters out of Driggs, Idaho, and Greg Poe from Meridian, Idaho.
Matt Younkin learned to fly at age 14 and now flies more than 50 different types of planes. He takes after his father, the legendary air show pilot Bobby Younkin.
Kyle and Amanda Franklin keep flying in the family as well. Kyle is the son of famous pilot Jimmy Franklin. Kyle’s wife Amanda is also the younger sister of Younkin.
Kyle and Amanda perform a wing walking act where they sword fight and stand on the wings of the twin prop as it free falls.
The USAF F-16 Viper East Coast Demonstration Team will fly their vintage P-51 Mustang with a current Air Force aircraft, the F-16 Viper.
The MiG Fury Fighters perform the world’s only three-jet war bird dog fight, performed with a narrated and musical soundtrack.
In addition to his nationally televised air shows, Poe supports a youth program called Elevate Your Life to educate kids about the danger of drugs.
Links to each pilot’s website can be found at the official Blue Thunder site, www.idahofallsairshow.com/performers/default.aspx.
Tickets can also be purchased in advance at their website for $15, www.idahofallsairshow.com/tickets/default.aspx.

Bay Area Jet Team Takes to the Skies for NASCAR Weekend in Sonoma - Catchfence
The Patriots Jet Demonstration Team, the nation’s only civilian aerobatic jet team, will highlight the festivities for a 5th consecutive year with gloss black Aero L-39 Albatros jets and signature red, white and blue smoke trails.
The Patriots, based in Bryon in East Contra Costa County, will utilize four of these jets in the show on Sunday of NASCAR weekend. You can catch their electrifying 25-minute show in the skies above the raceway at 10:30 a.m. (PST).
Race fans will witness maneuvers such as the Diamond Loop and Roll, the Opposing Knife Edge Pass and a maneuver usually reserved for propeller aircraft, the Tail Slide. The Patriots are the only jet team to perform the Tail Slide, where the jet will stand on its tail and fly skyward until running out of airspeed so that it falls tail-first through its own smoke trail.  The jets were developed in the Czech Republic for military use and can reach speeds in excess of 500 miles per hour.
The Patriots are owned by Discovery Bay resident Randy Howell.  Howell flew for United Airlines for 25 years and had 10 years of air show and Reno Air Racing experience before cancer grounded him (he is in remission). ...

Sean D. Tucker Launches Challenger III from AVwebFlash Current Issue
Sean D. Tucker, legendary airshow performer, this summer is introducing his brand-new custom-built Challenger III biplane, which can perform extreme maneuvers beyond what Tucker's previous aircraft were capable of. With the faster, more dynamic airplane, designed by Steve Wolf, Tucker has added more maneuvers to his routine, including somersaults and multiple cartwheels, and there is more to come. "I still have so much to learn," Tucker told AVweb this week. "It's like learning to fly all over again. It's so much fun." He has flown the airplane only about 200 times so far, he said, and "maybe with about 2,000 flights" he'll have a handle on its full range of capabilities. He said it's about a "30 percent better" airplane than any other he's flown. The biplane features a carbon-fiber flying tail inspired by the tails used on remote-control model aircraft, and eight ailerons.Related Content:Tucker spoke in detail about the Challenger III design and how he is working to maximize its potential in this week's AVweb podcast feature; click here to listen.-->

Amelia Earhart’s last flight to be recreated in sister plane from Pacific Flyer
Soon, she hopes, a "50ish," Scottish-born naturalized American CFI will attempt to recreate the late Amelia Earhart's last world flight in the exact type of plane that Amelia flew - one of only 15 Lockheed 10E's ever built, and, so far as anyone knows, the last one left.
Her name is Grace McGuire and she's working on the plane at El Cajon, California's Gillespie Field, which was the closest hangar she could find to Amelia's departure airport of Oakland. Miss McGuire, however, has a secret that will keep her flight from ending in disaster, she says.
She not only knows where Amelia's plane is, she's seen it and touched it, she says. Moreover, she knows the correct course to Howland Island from New Guinea, almost 2,600 miles, and why Amelia missed it. ...
