| | It's another busy weekend at the Museum with the American Heroes Air Show and our annual Father's Day celebration, sponsored by Bartell Drugs. On Saturday, June 19, The American Heroes Air Show lands at the Museum for Seattle's largest gathering of helicopters for public display. Held in several locations around the U.S., the American Heroes Air Show is the nation's premier helicopter fly-in event designed to profile aviation's dynamic role in law enforcement, public safety, communications, and search and rescue, as well as homeland security and national defense. The event also features a public safety job recruiting fair. Free to the public, the family-focused event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Museum parking lot. Before 9 a.m., visitors can see the helicopters land at the Museum ramp. Dads get free admission to the Museum on Father's Day with a coupon from Bartell Drugs. Treat dad to all of the special programs and activities on Sunday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Coupons are now available at participating Bartell Drugs stores in Western Washington. Regular admission prices apply for additional family members. This year's event features rides and tours of World War II aircraft. Other family activities include free space shuttle flight simulators; watching an assortment of flying machines in the entertaining "Flying Gizmo Show," Lego® building with the official Lego®Man, and making edible airplanes. There will also be a souvenir photo booth and special tours inside of the Museum. Sunday is also the final day to see the full-scale model of Curiosity, NASA's next Mars rover in the Museum Lobby. Visitors can make a version of the "sweetest" plane in our collection, the wible plane. While you may have a difficult time flying an edible airplane, Fathers' Day will still soar at the Museum with some old fashioned paper airplane building fun! | | | American Heroes Air Show Saturday, June 19, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. East Parking Lot Learn how helicopters play an important role in law enforcement, fire service, public safety, communications, national defense and homeland security. The American Heroes Air Show features static displays, special presentations and entertainment. Representatives from many organizations including local flight schools, Border Patrol, Search & Rescue units and the U.S. Coast Guard will be available to answer questions. Fire Department Day Friday, June 25, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. East Parking Lot The King County Fire & Life Safety Association hosts the annual King County Fire Department Day at the Museum. Kids of all ages can view fire equipment on display and meet the men and women who serve them. Visitors will have the opportunity to climb aboard a fire engine, see how tall an aerial ladder extends, talk with firefighters and department personnel, and learn fire and life safety skills through fun activities. This exciting summer event is fun and educational! Wings of Freedom WWII Bomber Tour Friday, Saturday, Sunday, June 25 - 28, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Join the Museum as the Collings Foundation's "Wings of Freedom" Tour lands at Boeing Field, providing Museum visitors the unique chance to experience both of the American heavy bombers that helped win World War II. Flights and ground tours are available on the Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress and the Consolidated B-24J Liberator. Flight training is offered in a P-51C Mustang.
