C-17 Globemaster and F-18 Super Hornet Demos Added

Dayton, Ohio – The United States Air Force and Navy have confirmed two exciting additions to the 2010 Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger, which will be held on July 17th and 18th.  The 36th annual show held at the Dayton International Airport will now include an Air Force C-17 Globemaster III along with a Navy F-18 Super Hornet flight demonstration.

A “big” hit on the air show circuit is a demonstration by the massive USAF C-17 Globemaster III.  The C-17 Globemaster, the newest, most flexible cargo aircraft in the Air Force will provide an engaging demonstration for air show spectators in Dayton this year.  This massive aircraft is nearly 200 feet long and 55 feet high and has a maximum gross takeoff weight of 585,000 pounds.  The versatile aircraft can perform tactical airlift and airdrop missions and can also transport litters and ambulatory patients during aeromedical evacuations when required.  The demo will be flown by Lt Col Jim Cole and Capt Carl Rotermund of the 58th Airlift Squadron, 97th Air Mobility Wing, Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma.

The Navy’s premier fighter, the F-18 Super Hornet, will also roar over Dayton skies to the delight of air show spectators.  A larger and more advanced version of the F-18 Hornet, the Super Hornet is a carrier-based strike fighter that is operationally active in both Iraq and Afghanistan.  Entering service with the US Navy in 1999, the Super Hornet replaced the

F-14 Tomcat in 2006 and continues to serve alongside the Hornet in the Navy’s fleet.  Informally known as the “Rhino”, the F-18 Super Hornet in Dayton will be flown by Lt. Thomas “Dieter” Bunker and Lt. Matt “Koko” Nieswand.  The East Coast Super Hornet Demonstration Team, of Strike Fighter Squadron 106, the “Gladiators” is based at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia.

Discounted General Admission tickets also go on sale today at all area Kroger stores, the exclusive advance ticket outlet for the Vectren Dayton Air Show presented by Kroger.  Patrons will enjoy a $3 savings for adult, senior citizen and child tickets purchased at Kroger.  This means that advance adult tickets are available for $17 while senior citizen and child advance tickets are $12 at Kroger.

“This is fantastic news; the Navy and Air Force demonstrations announced today are a terrific addition to our 2010 lineup,” said Michael Emoff, the USATS Board of Trustees, producers of the event.  “The blockbuster lineup together with the savings and convenience of purchasing discount tickets at Kroger makes our show a must-see for families this summer.” Emoff added.

Headlining this year’s show are the US Navy Blue Angels.  Debuting at the show this year will be a dramatic bombing reenactment with two WWII legendary B-17 bombers complete with spectacular pyrotechnics.  Also appearing are aerobatic legends Sean D. Tucker and the AeroShell Aerobatic Team along with newcomers Pirated Skies Wing-walking, Greg Poe, Team Fastrax skydiving and School Time Jet-Powered School Bus. The USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon Demonstration was also added to the show line-up in April.

Tickets are also going fast in the Blue Sky Chalets and Pavilion.  These reserved areas along with the bargain Family Four Pack are sure to be sell outs this year.  Check out all the terrific ticket options on the show’s web site, www.daytonairshow.com.
