Norman pilot, Tulsa wingwalker set record
Tulsa World | NORMAN - Norman pilot Robert Ragozzino and Tulsa wing walker Ashley Battles set an aviation record for the longest wing walk ever Saturday over San Francisco Bay.
At four hours and two minutes, the pair shattered the old record of 3 hours, 32 minutes. They endured high winds and chilling temperatures on the wing. Once on land, they were met by an enthusiastic group of supports with bottles of Champagne in hand.
Before Saturday, Battles had wing-walked for 15 to 30 minute at air shows.
''He (Ragozzino) told me when we actually broke the record. That was kind of exciting. We were circling the airport and he told me to come down," Battles said Monday. "I verified four hours. I wasn't coming down until we had at least four."
Battles said she listened to music to pass the time. Communication with the pilot was through hand signals.
''I try not to think about the time. I had my I-pod," she said. "I was just stiff and tense the whole time. You have to fight it. You're going 100 miles an hour. You're just so cold.
Ragozzino said the plane performed well but Battles deserves the credit.

All-female flight crew takes 'unique' mission - Great Falls Tribune
... "It's been something we wanted to do just because of the fact that it is kind of unique," Tenpenny said before taking off Monday afternoon on the first all-female flight Malmstrom has seen in nearly 10 years.
Female helicopter pilots are a rarity in the Air Force. Of the Air Force's 13,706 pilots, only 4.6 percent are female, according to a Malmstrom news release. The percentage of female helicopter pilots is even smaller.
A UH-1N flight crew is required to have at least two pilots and a flight engineer.
Female flight engineers are even harder to come by than pilots. Staff Sgt. Michelle Bresson is one of only two female UH-1N flight engineers in the Air Force, and she's the only flight engineer in Global Strike Command, the portion of the Air Force that oversees Malmstrom. ...
