Midview teen flying high, makes first solo flight - Chronicle Online
EATON TWP. — When Mack Kiesel turned 16 on June 11, he didn't make a mad dash for a car.
Mack Kiesel, 16, soloed as a pilot in a Piper Archer at Burke Lakefront Airport on his birthday, June 11.
Rather, he grabbed a headset and took to the sky as he made his first solo flight in a Piper Archer aircraft from Burke Lakefront Airport in downtown Cleveland.
And while many teenagers look forward to the day they are free to take the open road, Mack was even more excited to fly solo.
Mack was learning how to fly long before he received his driver's license.
"I have a student pilot certificate that allowed me to (fly) solo when I turned 16 and will allow me to continue to fly solo in order to meet my solo requirements for my private pilot license," Mack said. ...
