Flight plans grounded - Odessa American Online | Photo by kurtsj00 on Flickr
Flight plans for “Fifi,” the last operable B-29 Superfortress, were scrapped a second time this summer Monday morning due to differences in essential crew requirements between the Commemorative Air Force and the Federal Aviation Administration.
The FAA issued an Airworthiness Certificate to the CAF requiring a minimum essential crew of four members, but the CAF’s safety measures require at least six authorized crew members, with a possible seventh during the test-flight phase where a second flight engineer would serve as a second set of eyes.  ...

the "quatorze juillet" celebrations - Dutch Aviation Society/Scramble
Every year, the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789 is celebrated on 14 Juli; the "quatorze juillet" celebrations all over France with
festivities and fireworks all over the country.
But the festivities in Paris always start with a military parade over the Champs-Élysées avenue, in front of the French President. And of course, this parade includes flying assests from all military forces in France.
This year, one of our editors was in the lucky circumstance to attend the rehearsals on Châteaudun last week. But as the next issue of Scramble Magazine will be published too late to be of use to anybody attending this years celebrations, we have decided to put the report online!!
So when you want to know all ins and outs of the flying display at quatorze juillet 2010, please go to http://www.scramble.nl/mag/gfx/14July2010.pdf
Kind regards,  --  Hans Hoogers-Dutch Aviation Society/Scramble

Ike and the First Presidential Helicopters from AirSpace by The National Air and Space Museum | On July 12, 1957, Dwight D. Eisenhower became the first president to employ a helicopter while in office. Though helicopters had been in operational use by the American military since 1944, concerns over their safety caused the Secret Service to bar their use for the nation’s chief executive except in case of emergency. However, by 1956, the nuclear capability of the Soviet Union had reached the point where any evacuation of the president by roads could not be guaranteed and the head of President Eisenhower’s flight section, Air Force Col. Flying Bombers in World War II - Air & Space Magazine
My mother still smiles out at me from a small black-and-white photo on my bookshelf. In the picture, she is a prim young woman in a crisp white shirt and smart pinafore. That gleam of silver over her heart and her grand smile say it all: She had achieved her dream. She could fly. ...
