Can't Make it to Oshkosh? from Leaving Terra Firma by Matt | It's that time of year.  Next week is the aviation event that we all look forward to — Airventure in Oshkosh.  I'm trying to get  my own little pilgrimage together for the last half of the week.  I will be closely following the event all week though.  As a matter of public service, I would like to offer a collection of sites and tools which will allow someone to experience Oshkosh at home…As for non-EAA coverage, I will offer a few of my favorite places.  Avweb will likely offer coverage on their special events page or they will definitely have some coverage in the general feed.  As I saw when writing this post, the guys from UCAP are definitely going to be on hand throughout the week.  Check their site and forums for more info.  I'd be surprised if we didn't hear anything out of Airspeedthe Pilot Cast, or Pilot's Flight Podlog. The Pilots of America forums might also bear examination…

Aviation Trivia of the Day by JP Santiago - I had earlier featured US Navy E-2 Hawkeye squadron VAW-77 "Night Wolves" and the crucial role they played during the rescue efforts in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. It turns out that VAW-77 is a very unique squadron within the US Navy on several counts. Though a Reserve unit no different than many of the reserve air units of the different branches of the US military, VAW-77's primary mission is Counter-Illicit Trafficking (CIT) and as such, they are not required to operate from aircraft carriers and therefore its pilots do not have to go through carrier qualifications…
