DC-3 75 Anniversary Tour from Hiller Aviation Museum
Day 4 – The Last Time | Incredible, unbelievable, awe inspiring. There are not enough adjectives to describe today. It started out with a two hour briefing at 8:30am. That was a long briefing but this is serious business and there is no room for mistakes.
24 DC-3's/C-47's sat patiently on the ramp waiting for the assigned 12:22pm time to start engines. Just minutes before start there was no one on the ramp. It was a little eerie, just magnificent proud airplanes gleaming in the mid-west sun. Then precisely at 12:22 Dan Gryder in the lead DC-3 started to turn ...

Matti Peura from FAI Aerobatics Commission - CIVA - by Mike Heuer
Matti Peura - Finnish Glider Aerobatic Champion in 2005Matti Peura - Finnish Glider Aerobatic Champion in 2005We are sad to report the passing of Matti Peura of Finland last night, on the 26th of July, 2010.
Matti was a member of the CIVA Glider Aerobatics Sub-Committee and an enthusiastic supporter and advocate for glider aerobatics for many years. He was particularly involved in initiative to bring the World Advanced Glider Aerobatic Championships to Finland - the first one just having been completed last Saturday, 24 July, in Jämi.
Only 48 years old, Matti died of prions disease, a very rare ailment. A glider aerobatic pilot himself, he was several times the Finnish Glider Aerobatic Champion, the first Nordic Glider Aerobatic Champion, and was preparing for the FAI Championships in Jämi when he became ill in May.  ...

Helicopter Air Show in Los Angeles from Dave's Aviation
Once again I have to hand it to social media for helping me discover an aviation event, this time right in my own back yard. Rakhmanin draws on past achievements to bolster confidence from
ST PETERSBURG, Russia – The elusive Russian pilot in the Red Bull Air Race has yet to make the podium but his flying CV is one of the most impressive in the field. Red Bull Reporter at RIAT - Red Bull UK from
In amongst the military aircraft and exhibitions stood Red Bull Air Race pilots Paul Bonhomme, the reigning world champion, and Nigel Lamb of Team Breitling. No strangers to the sort of fanfare that goes with an event like RIAT, the two Brits brought their racing airplanes to Fairford as part of the static display and to meet fans of the Air Race. In 2008, I had the opportunity to fly a mission aboard a SIAI 208M of the Trapani based 37° Stormo of the Aeronautica Militare (Italian Air Force, ItAF) within a SMI (Slow Mover Interceptor) mission. Flying as "I-2009″ we played the role of a Slow Mover and were intercepted by 2 F-16 ADF of the X Gruppo (10° Gruppo) as I later described in the article "Nei panni dello Slow Mover". The flight with the S.208 was extremely interesting: before ...

Making peace with defense coverage from Runway Girl by Mary Kirby
You all know I love talking about, writing about and generally espousing the virtues of the increasingly modern commercial aircraft cabin. But when an air show strikes, I need to be able to jump out of my comfort zone and cover other parts of the industry, including defense, for Flightglobal.
Last week at the Farnborough air show, I had the chance to interview a Eurofighter Typhoon pilot. But even though this video has nothing to do with IFE or interiors (and falls squarely into the 'light and fun' category), I should note that Panasonic Avionics, Thales and Row 44 are all working on new in-flight connectivity solutions for the defense market. Check out Row 44 partner Hughes' new 'Airborne Comms on the Move' video. Thales also had its defense offering on display at its Farnborough chalet.
Now there is where some real money lies....
