Bartsch as he discusses his latest book, "Every Day a Nightmare: American Pursuit Pilots in the Defense of Java, 1941-42," on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7: 30 p.m. in the museum's Carney Auditorium. In the beginning of 1942, as the Japanese war machine continued driving south in its bid to seize the Dutch East Indies and its oil wealth, the U.S. Army command in Australia formed five provisional pursuit squadrons with 124 pilots.
