CZECHMATE OUT FOR 2010 from www.aafo.com
Thanks one and all for your kind words. We will be back in 2011 after we get the wing strengthened up a bit. Then you will see how fast that little Yak will really go. With John Moore stepping up to the plate to get the Mate some new wings and LD Hughes and company doing the work, I definitely will feel comfortable hammering that P&W all the way to the floor. Guest commentary: Mystery solved: The Bear Island Airplane Camp - Naples News
Last Sunday’s article and photos brought forward many stories. Some of the calls to me from readers told of heartfelt experiences; one told of sorrow and pain.
One caller said he had heard this story while camped out at Bear Island when a teen. He was told the airplane, in World War II, was on a practice bombing mission in the "Holey Land" bombing range between Fort Lauderdale and Immokalee, north of what is now Alligator Alley and the Collier-Broward line. It was named for the craters left by the bombs and other explosive munitions.
The story goes on to tell that after the bombs were dropped, the aircraft experienced mechanical trouble, the crew bailed out and it crashed into the swamp.
One caller, Billy Ferguson, stated he had been in the airplane camp, and it was laid out as described and looked the same as the photos. ...

Our View: The Sky’s The Limit If Aviation School Comes Here from Aviation Blogs
An Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University campus in Rockford is a great opportunity that must be seized.
Unemployment in the Rockford metropolitan area is 15.7 percent, people who are working have seen their earning power diminished and local governments are struggling to balance budgets and maintain services. Enticing Embry-Riddle to expand here would be a big win for a community that desperately needs one.
Rockford, Houston and Phoenix are the finalists for Embry-Riddle’s third campus, according ...
