SEPTEMBER 26, 2010 – GEORGETOWN, TX Central Texas residents had beautiful weather for the Georgetown Airfest. This was mostly an open house for the community to check out some beautiful planes, new and old, learn more about the local flight schools, and see some flying as well. Right at the main entrance was “Devil Dog” a B-25 Mitchell Bomber. This plane is actually a PBJ, the Marine Corp designation for the B-25. Hundreds of people got an up close look at this beautiful aircraft.
Also on the ramp were some vintage planes including a Cessna 195, two Beechcraft C-45’s, Stearman, T-6 Texan, and several RV 7’s & 8’s. In fact “Falcon Flight” is a formation team flying the RV homebuilt planes. On Saturday the T-6 did several low passes over the main runway at Georgetown.
An Apache helicopter from Ft. Hood’s 1st Air Cavalry was on hand which drew a great deal of attention. Many attendees paid for helicopter rides in a Robinson R44. And quite a few Young Eagle flights were made both Saturday and Sunday.
Georgetown hasn’t had an air show in many years, but this event may help to bring one back to this growing city just north of Austin, TX.
