The Legend of Pancho Barnes / January, 2010 Update

Happy new year from Amanda Pope, Nick Spark and Pancho Barnes.  Here's the latest news from Pancho-land:

MISSION VIEJO SCREENING THIS SATURDAY!
It's not too late to get tickets to our screening in Mission Viejo this Saturday at 7 p.m.  This special event, hosted by the City of Mission Viejo, represents the Orange County debut of the film.  Since our affiliated station KOCE-TV broadcasts in the OC, this is a bit of a homecoming for us.  You can read the details and buy tickets on our website or by clicking here.

BUZZING SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT FEBRUARY 4th
We return to the Bay Area to show the film at the San Francisco Airport's wonderful Louis A. Turpen aviation history museum.  This sponsored event is free to the public, but an RSVP is recommended.  For details click here.

PASADENA SCREENING FEBRUARY 25th

We'll be having two showings of the film in Pasadena on February 25th to benefit three great non-profts: the KOCE-TV Foundation, Heritage Square and the Pasadena Museum of History.  This special event is sure to sell out, so if you are planning to attend I recommend getting tickets now by clicking here.

ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR 1910 DOMINGUEZ HILLS AIR MEET
2010 represents 100 years since the Dominguez Hills Air Meet.  This event was the very first air show in the United States and was attended by many notable aviators including (as seen in our documentary) Thaddeus Lowe and his young granddaughter Florence.  There are a number of centennial events being planned, including a lecture by Barbara Schultz and a screening of our film in the late Fall.  The first event, a presentation about a new commemorative book about the Air Meet, takes place on this Sunday.  To see a list of all the planned events, visit the  Dominguez Rancho website by clicking here.  An astonishing array of historic photos and other memorabilia related to the Meet in the collection of Cal State Dominguez Hills can be seen here

LATEST PRODUCTION JOURNAL ENTRY: Pancho Barnes and E Clampus Vitus

There's a funny, wonderful California organization you may have heard of (or then again maybe not!) by the name of E Clampus Vitus.  This ancient and honorable order of pranksters is somewhat akin to the Moose or the Elks or Lions Clubs, only a bit goofier.  As they say on their website, "The early meetings of E Clampus Vitus in the California gold fields were devoted so completely to drinking and carousing that none of the Clampers was ever in any condition to keep minutes, let alone remember what had happened the next day!"  ECV was founded in the 1950s, and over the years ECV has had many famous members, including two California governors — Edmond G. Brown and a friend of Pancho's named Ronald Reagan.

Well, Pancho Barnes wasn't a member of E Clampus Vitus, but her own sense of vitality, humor and playfulness attracted the attention of this esteemed group.  So, the day after April Fools' day in the year 2000,TO READ MORE VISIT OUR ON-LINE JOURNAL BY CLICKING HERE.
