SU-27s...the Ultimate "I'll Take Two" from AviationBull - Where pilots go to shoot the bull... by Jason | Every pilot ends up dreaming about flying faster, more capable aircraft. For the last half-century or so this dreaming almost invariably led pilots to warbirds, ex-military aircraft put into private service. Right now WWII era planes like the P-51 Mustang are all the rage; however, jet aircraft are becoming increasingly available. Though few of us will ever be able to afford our own jet, it's fun to dream about. The EAA's Warbirds division just published an article about the ultimate warbird offering, exclusively from warbird supplier Pride Aircraft. Their product? A pair of SU-27 Flankers!

Flight 1549-Inspired Tow Plane Crash Lands Near Hudson from AVwebFlash Current Issue | Friday, a Piper Super Cub banner tow aircraft reportedly dispatched to buzz a New York City Flight 1549 anniversary celebration while trailing a sign that read "If you died today, would you go to heaven or hell? John 14:6" made a forced landing at Fresh Kills landfill, which holds 9/11 wreckage. The owner of Smoketown Banners, LLC, of New Holland, Pa., which operated the aircraft, told CBS news that an anonymous client paid for the ad meant to be seen by survivors of the "Miracle on the Hudson." The owner said the Piper blew a cylinder, its pilot notified controllers at Newark Liberty International Airport, dropped the banner in a stand of trees and made a safe landing on a road after circling back to the now-closed landfill.

WINGS: A history of aviation from kites to the space age from Rodney's Aviation Ramblings by Rodney | A few weeks ago I finished reading a book called WINGS a History of Aviation from Kites to the Space Age by Tom D. Crouch. It's an excellent book covering [as the name suggests] from kites to balloons the the Wright Brothers, right through the World Wars, the "Cold War" and the space age. It's an excellent read with almost every page containing some interesting fact or snippet. The style of the book is easy to read and will be very interesting to any aviation buff. The beginnings of aviation [that is, before the Wright Brothers came on the scene] are covered in much detail which is very interesting. The end of the book is perhaps more American-focussed but this is not a big issue - it is still a great read. All in all, well recommended!
