Jetliner Dreams in a Mechanical Wonderland   from Av8rdan's World of Flying by Dan Pimentel (editor's note: This is part two of two. Part one is here.) In part one of my post on my recent factory tour of Boeing's Everett Assembly Building, I gushed over the completely awesome scene of looking down on actual 747s being fabricated right before my eyes. I tried to put into words the sheer size of this facility, certified by the good people at Guiness (the book, not the beer) as the largest building in the world by volume.

US Secret Plane Uncovered [Airplanes] from Gizmodo by Jesus Diaz | Remember the secret plane spotted in Kandahar? The one that looked like a Nazi stealth plane? Well, it's been spotted again, but this time the picture is crystal clear, and it doesn't look like anything in the US arsenal. There's a possibility that it may have a canopy above the nose, which means it could be a very small manned plane instead of a UAV. On the other side, it could just be the air intake. Its buttocks look like those of the P175 Polecat, a design by Skunk Works—Lockheed Martin's Advanced Development Programs. Whatever it is, I want one for xmas. [Flight Global]

Air Force's X-51 WaveRider close to first flight from AviationDayton by editor@aviationdayton.com | WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – The first "captive carry" flight of the Air Force's revolutionary X-51 WaveRider is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 9, in California, a spokesman said today. It will be a major step towards an eventual free flight of the experimental craft early next year and an attempt at an engineering first – reaching six times the speed of sound on the power of an air-breathing engine burning jet fuel. If achieved, it could open the door to a new class of high-speed weapons and quick-response, airplane-like space lifters.

Aviation Nation 2009 Gallery Open from Defence Talk Forum by Scott | I'm a little late posting, but give me a little time & will have quite a few photos posted. Nellis staff did an outstanding job pulling the show together in spite of cancellations by Raptor & Strike Eagle demo teams that were performing in Dubai. Fighter Weapons School fielded a Raptor, Eagle, Viper & Warthog. A-10 West demo pilot put on a great show and Phantom in Heritage Flight made a few solo passes. Patriots L-39 demo team supplemented the precision excellence that is the hallmark of the Thunderbirds. Lots of Warbirds in the pattern from both WWII and Korean War. Great show - link to gallery below.
