NEMESIS AIR RACING DREAM CHASING ON HOLD FOR 2010

Spokesperson for the Record setting 15 time Reno Air Race National Champion Jon Sharp and the Nemesis Air Racing Team, has announced that the Team will not be returning to the Reno Air Races in September 2010 to defend the Team’s record setting 2009 Super Sport title. The one year “Dream on Hold” is due to family health issues. Late in 2009 Pilot Jon Sharp and his beautiful Team Manager wife, Patricia, moved from their home of 20+ years in California to the Tucson Arizona area to take care of Patricia’s widowed mother “Mom” Haynes. Mom Haynes has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The disease also claimed the life of Patricia’s father Marion in March of 2007, during the time when Jon and Patricia were going through the “part swap” kidney transplant, where Patricia gave Jon a life saving kidney.

The Nemesis Team wishes to pass along its sincerest apologies to Air Racing fans and fans of Team Nemesis that they will not be seeing, and hearing the screaming sound of the “Thunderbolt” powered “Hot Pink” speedster dusting the pylons at Reno this year.

The Team had its best year ever in the thirty plus years of racing at Reno in 2009 by setting a “record a day”. Records were broken each time the plane was on the course, with qualifying record of 412+ MPH. The Team followed up the Qualifying record with heat race records each day raising the bar form 393+ MPH, to 399+ Mph, to 406+ MPH in the final heat race. This only to be topped by the sizzling Super Sport Gold Gold Race Championship speed of 407+ MPH!

The Team wishes to Thank it’s “cast of thousands” team members and sponsors for the years of support.

Stay Tuned......

The Team would also like to encourage Air Racing fans to tune to the Documentary Channel for the television debut of the Christopher Webb Film, “ AIR RACER: CHASING THE DREAM”! There is a complete list of times on documentarychannel.com & on the right hand side of this website under Quick News. The Documentary Channel can be found on DirecTV 267, and Dish Network 197, check local listings for the channel and time in your area.

Jetliner Dreams in a Mechanical Wonderland   from Av8rdan's World of Flying by Dan Pimentel (editor's note: This is part two of two. Part one is here.) In part one of my post on my recent factory tour of Boeing's Everett Assembly Building, I gushed over the completely awesome scene of looking down on actual 747s being fabricated right before my eyes. I tried to put into words the sheer size of this facility, certified by the good people at Guiness (the book, not the beer) as the largest building in the world by volume.

US Secret Plane Uncovered [Airplanes] from Gizmodo by Jesus Diaz | Remember the secret plane spotted in Kandahar? The one that looked like a Nazi stealth plane? Well, it's been spotted again, but this time the picture is crystal clear, and it doesn't look like anything in the US arsenal. There's a possibility that it may have a canopy above the nose, which means it could be a very small manned plane instead of a UAV. On the other side, it could just be the air intake. Its buttocks look like those of the P175 Polecat, a design by Skunk Works—Lockheed Martin's Advanced Development Programs. Whatever it is, I want one for xmas. [Flight Global]

Air Force's X-51 WaveRider close to first flight from AviationDayton by editor@aviationdayton.com | WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – The first "captive carry" flight of the Air Force's revolutionary X-51 WaveRider is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 9, in California, a spokesman said today. It will be a major step towards an eventual free flight of the experimental craft early next year and an attempt at an engineering first – reaching six times the speed of sound on the power of an air-breathing engine burning jet fuel. If achieved, it could open the door to a new class of high-speed weapons and quick-response, airplane-like space lifters.

Nellis staff did an outstanding job pulling the show together in spite of cancellations by Raptor & Strike Eagle demo teams that were performing in Dubai. Fighter Weapons School fielded a Raptor, Eagle, Viper & Warthog. A-10 West demo pilot put on a great show and Phantom in Heritage Flight made a few solo passes. Patriots L-39 demo team supplemented the precision excellence that is the hallmark of the Thunderbirds. Lots of Warbirds in the pattern from both WWII and Korean War. Great show - link to gallery below.

Mustang Mania Flight Today Air & Space Magazine from http://www.airspacemag.com/
Early in the first week of April,
Tim Shea, the manager of a small airport just south of Orlando, Florida, got an e-mail from a friend and airport manager at Falcon Field, near Mesa, Arizona. "Tim, 12 Mustangs just came through here bound for your place," he said. "What's going on?" Shea's delighted answer was that the aircraft were coming east for the historic Gathering of Mustangs and Legends, a fly-in of restored P-51s and a celebration of the legendary pilots who flew them. The vintage fighters trickled in until by Saturday, April 10, a total of 67 Mustangs--about half of all the ones still flying in the world--were parked at the airport in Kissimmee. They were invited by Stallion 51 Corporation, a small operation offering orientation flights and checkout training. Stallion 51's director, Lee Lauderback, organized two days of seminars on handling and maintenance, with lectures on such topics as "gyroscopic principles and propeller performance." The pilots came, first, to be a part of the largest assembly of Mustangs since the Korean war, second, to check out everybody else's Mustang, and third, to swap stories and share information on things like where to find dwindling parts.

KBJC- Wings of Freedom Tour 2009 from Pilots of America Message Board
The Collings Foundation is bringing the Wings of Freedom Tour, which showcases three fully restored WWII Bomber Aircraft, to Metro Airport on July 1st to the 3rd. These aircraft are the 1944 vintage Consolidate B-24J Liberator, the Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress "Nine-O-Nine" and the TP-51C "Betty Jane" Mustang.
The "Wings of Freedom Tour" has two goals: to honor our veterans--recognizing their sacrifices so we may enjoy our freedom; and to educate the visitors, especially younger Americans, about our national history and heritage. The Foundation encourages people to tour the planes, talk to the veterans who come to visit the aircraft, and participate in a "flight experience". In nineteen years, the tour has made more than 2,172 visits to airports across the United States and Alaska. While the exact number of visitors is difficult to gauge, it is estimated that between 3 and 4 million people see these warbirds annually.
