GOING GREEN
All of us at ICAS are taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint. And so we are converting our daily convention newsletter, ICAS Today, from a printed version delivered to each member's hotel room into an electronic edition transmitted to all registered delegates by e-mail.
ICAS Today Made Possible by CAF and Tora, Tora, Tora
ICAS Today is made possible by the Commemorative Air Force and Tora Tora Tora. Many thanks to both of these fine organizations for helping us to make this valuable service available to all of our ICAS Convention delegates.
Mark Sanborn Delivers A Very Special Keynote
On Monday, delegates attending the 2009 ICAS Convention were treated to a stirring keynote address by author, lecturer … and pilot … Mark Sanborn. Sanborn was able to relate the challenges facing the air show industry today to important insights he developed in his best-selling book, The Fred Factor. The hero of Sanborn's book is a real live person by the name of Fred … Fred Shea, a letter carrier in Denver who goes to bed each evening asking himself a simple question: Did I waste any of the day that's now coming to an end?
Sanborn was introduced by former ICAS chairman Jim Peitz, but in a very unusual fashion. Both men had been video recorded earlier aboard Jim's plane and the introduction was shown to convention delegates as Peitz executed a mid-air loop maneuver.
Exhibit Hall Open Today
The Exhibit Hall at this year's ICAS Convention will be open today, Tuesday, from 2:15 until 6:00 in the afternoon. The exhibit hall is sponsored by Chuck Vincent's Eagle Air LLC.
Marketing Competition Awards Luncheon Provides Recognition, Information
Sponsored by John Klatt Airshows
During the last several years, the ICAS Marketing Competition Luncheon has become more than an awards ceremony. It's an event that all of our convention delegates look forward to as one of the most entertaining elements of the convention. In addition, it provides a unique opportunity to recognize the top achievers in our business. In a fast-paced, information-packed session, the top three entries in each category will be recognized and the top award winners will be announced.
The Marketing Competition Awards luncheon begins today at 12:00 noon in the Concorde ballroom.

Jet Teams & Golden Knights
During yesterday's opening general session, all three North American jet teams, as well as the Golden Knights Army parachute team, announced their schedules for the 2010 air show season. In previous years, space constraints have prevented our including this important information in ICAS Today. Thanks to the wonders of electronic communication, however, we are now able to provide our members with the full 2010 jet team schedule.

ICAS Accepting Seat Reservations for Chairman's Banquet;
New Reservation System for Marketing Awards Luncheon
Because our reservation system worked so well for the Chairman's Banquet in 2008, this year ICAS will use a seat reservation system for the Marketing Awards Luncheon as well. Members wishing to reserve seats for either the luncheon or the banquet may do so at the reservation table outside the Loire room of the Paris Convention Center during Exhibit Hall Open hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Although reservations are not mandatory, they are highly recommended.
Additional Tickets for Social Events
Additional tickets for social events and meal functions … for spouses and other guests …may be purchased at the Registration Desk. Additional tickets for the Tuesday afternoon Marketing Awards Luncheon are $25 per person. Tickets for the Wednesday night Chairman's Banquet are $50 per person. Social event tickets may only be purchased by registered convention delegates for their spouses and/or guests.
Internet Café Available for Delegate Convenience
Sponsored by Stallion 51 and The Gathering Foundation
Thanks to the generosity of Stallion 51 and The Gathering Foundation, ICAS is once again pleased to offer a multi-station Internet Café to provide 2009 ICAS Convention delegates with convenient, high-speed access to the internet. Located in the busiest area of the convention center, this bank of five laptop computers, plus a laser printer, will allow delegates to check e-mail, print documents, and conduct virtual business with their "home office." Delegates will have access to the Internet Café during working hours throughout the convention.
Exhibit Floor Solicitation Policy
Selling privileges on the ICAS Convention exhibit hall floor are limited to individuals and organizations that have contracted and paid for space assignments. No other persons or organizations are permitted to sell products or services, solicit contributions, distribute advertising materials, or demonstrate products on the exhibit hall floor. Non-exhibiting personnel observed selling on the exhibit hall floor will be asked to stop such activities. If these non-exhibiting personnel refuse to stop, they will be asked to leave the hall.
ICAS Needs Your Show Dates
Much of the ICAS Convention involves the gradual development of the upcoming air show season schedule. For this part of the program to work, we need your involvement. Whether you're a performer or an event organizer, we want to hear from you … and we need to hear from you. Fill out the form in your Convention Program/Proceedings book and turn it in to the Registation Desk located at the north end of the convention area of the hotel. We will take the information you submit and update the schedule periodically throughout the convention.
2010 ICAS Convention Space Draw
The exhibit space draw for the 2010 ICAS Convention will be held tonight between 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 in Concorde C and will include a cash bar.
Tuxedo Information
The Chairman's Banquet in the Concorde Ballroom on Wednesday evening is a black-tie-optional event. If you do not have a tuxedo and would like to rent one, ICAS has made arrangements with Tuxedo Junction, a local formal wear company. You can call them at 702-873-8830, or 800-832-5717, to arrange a rental. Tuxedo Junction plans to deliver rental ware to the Concierge Desk at The Paris at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and this is where you may pick up your orders. BE CERTAIN TO SPECIFY TO TUXEDO JUNCTION THAT YOU ARETENDING THE ICAS CONVENTION AT THE PARIS HOTEL. Rental tuxedoes may be dropped off at the Bell Desk in The Paris prior to your departure.
Wanted: Feedback, Feedback, Feedback
Many of the new ideas that have been incorporated into this year's convention are a direct result of feedback and ideas generated from conventions past. We strongly encourage you to use the educational session evaluation forms to tell us what you thought of each session. And, of course, if you have questions or would like to make additional suggestions, please don't hesitate to stop an ICAS representative or contact us afterwards to share your thoughts.
Convention Sponsors Add Value, Defray Convention Expenses
The organizations providing sponsorship support to this year's ICAS Convention provide assistance to the event in many different ways.
First, they improve and expand the convention in ways that would not have been possible without their support.
Second, they help us "hold the line" on price increases and keep the ICAS Convention as affordable as possible so as many members as possible may participate. Due in large part to the generosity of our sponsors, the inflation-adjusted cost of convention registration and convention booth rental at the ICAS Convention has actually decreased over the last fifteen years.
Thirdly, as leaders within the air show community, their support helps strengthen ICAS and our very important annual convention.
If you get the chance, we hope that you'll stop by and offer your thanks to these sponsors for their commitment to and support of your organization.
