GOING GREEN
ICAS is taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint. And so we have converted our daily convention newsletter, ICAS Today, from a printed version delivered to each member's hotel room into an electronic edition transmitted to the e-mail address of every registered delegate.
ICAS Today Made Possible by Commemorative Air Force & Tora, Tora, Tora
Throughout our 2009 Convention, ICAS Today has been made possible by the Commemorative Air Force and Tora Tora Tora. Many thanks to both of these fine organizations for helping us to make this valuable service available to all of our ICAS Convention delegates.
ICAS Recognizes Top Ideas, Execution in Annual Marketing Competition
The winners of the 2009 ICAS Marketing Competition were announced yesterday during an awards luncheon ably hosted by Ric Peterson … and sponsored by John Klatt Airshows.
Once again, parity seemed to be the order of the day as awards were distributed to a broad cross section of ICAS member organizations. The winners in each category were showcased and recognized while the submissions of all finalists have been on display at booths 918 and 920 in the Exhibit Hall since the start of the convention. Winning entries will also be featured in a future issue of Air Shows Magazine. Awards were also presented during the luncheon for several categories of display booths in the Exhibit Hall.

Tonight's Banquet Concludes Convention … and the 2009 Air Show Season
Tonight's Chairman's Banquet is the traditional grand finale to the annual ICAS Convention. It is the air show industry's equivalent to the Academy Awards, and includes the presentation of our industry's highest honors: the ICAS Sword of Excellence; the Art Scholl Showmanship Awards; and the Dick Schram Award. This year air show legends Tom Poberezny, Charlie Kuld and Bobby Younkin will be inducted into the ICAS Foundation Air Show Hall of Fame.
The annual Chairman's Banquet represents both the end of one air show season and the beginning of the next. It is an opportunity for ICAS members and air show professionals to celebrate our business and the role they have played in its success. It also gives all of our members a chance to "cut loose" and have some fun with their air show colleagues before heading home and making preparations for the 2010 air show season.
Whether this is your first ICAS Convention or you are a veteran of many previous get sessions, we hope that you'll join us for this end-of-year celebration.
Banquet Reservations
Everyone who has not yet done so is strongly encouraged to make a table reservation for tonight's Chairman's Banquet. The reservations desk will be open this morning from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon in the convention hallway in front of the Loire Room.
Convention Attendance Provides Pleasant Surprise
In much the same manner that air show attendance was higher than expected throughout much of the 2009 air show season despite a general decline in our nation's economy, attendance at the ICAS Convention has also exceeded expectations. With total attendance just shy of 1,500 registered delegates, this year's ICAS Convention has offered a pleasant surprise that is both an appropriate conclusion to the 2009 air show season and a promising first indicator for the success of the 2010 season.
"While it hasn't been our largest convention ever, it's been much bigger than we ever expected it to be," said ICAS President John Cudahy. "We believe the enthusiasm we have seen this week in Las Vegas will translate into more business activity in the industry as we move into 2010."
Advanced Warning: We Want Your Feedback
A few days after the 2009 ICAS Convention concludes, we will be sending you a detailed evaluation form that we would like you … and others from your organization … to complete and return to ICAS. Your first and best opportunity to influence the content and schedule for the 2010 ICAS Convention will be the feedback you provide. Please take a few minutes to offer your suggestions and ideas.
Exhibit Breakdown
Exhibit breakdown begins at 12:30 today and runs through 4:45 p.m.
This year, ICAS will vigorously enforce our early breakdown penalties for exhibitors who begin dismantling their booths before the official 12:45 p.m. conclusion of Exhibit Session D this afternoon.
"Our exhibit rules and regulations prohibit early breakdown and stipulate specific penalties based on how early any such early breakdown begins," ICAS President John Cudahy said. "Convention delegates pay for a fully-functioning Exhibit Hall right through the end of our published exhibit hours. So that is why we believe we have a responsibility to make sure they get it."
In response to comments from ICAS Convention delegates in previous years, the last exhibit session will begin and end slightly earlier than in previous years, thus providing exhibitors with more time to break down their booths and prepare for the Chairman's Banquet tonight. But this makes the "no break down before 12:30" rule even more important.
ICAS Still Needs Your Show Dates
Even as this year's ICAS Convention draws to a close, the ICAS staff and your fellow ICAS members are still eager to get your show dates. When the jet team schedules were announced on Monday, most of the details of the 2010 North American air show season began to take shape. While many air shows have already provided ICAS with their dates and listings for 2010, we still don't have them all. So if you know your dates for the upcoming season and have not yet reported them, please stop by Member Services and give us the information.
The ICAS Board of Directors
Chuck Newcomb, of CK Newcomb and Associates, has been elected to a second one-year term on the ICAS Board of Directors, while Judy Willey of the Oregon International Air Show and Bill Roach of the Wings Over Houston Air Show have each been elected to three-year terms. In addition, Ed Shipley and George Cline have concluded their elected terms on the Board after many years of distinguished service.
Many Thanks to our Convention Sponsors
During the last two decades, the ICAS Convention has been expanded and improved. ICAS has been able to introduce additional benefits and programming with no significant increase in convention fees because of the generous and reliable support of our convention sponsors. As we conclude the 2009 ICAS Convention, we'd like to express our heartfelt thanks one more time to…
