Oshkosh Countdown underway... 218 days to go.. from Kingston Flying Club by Kingstondivepro | In case there's anyone out there who hasn't heard yet, there are several Club members heading for the Experimental Aircraft Association's Airventure in Oshkosh next Summer. I guess the initiative came from Avery, who attended in 2009. He inspired Mike and James to make the decision to fly in for the 2010 event. Then, Darren and Ken indicated interest, and when Dave heard about the trip, he signed up too. The more the merrier. There are side trips planned, perhaps, to Sporty's Pilot Shop and the US Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. These would be made either on the way to, or the on the way home from, the main event. Keep an eye on the blog for more news…

John Lear on John Lear from ExpressJet Forum by RJdriver | One of the anguishes of advancing age is losing old friends. The upside of that, though, is that I get to tell the story my way. I learned to fly at > Clover Field in Santa Monica when I was 14. However before I got to get in an actual airplane Dad made me take 40 hours of Link with Charlie Gress. I can't remember what I did yesterday but I guarantee you I could still shoot a 90 degree, Fade-out or Parallel radio range orientation…

Hello Plane Folks, This week I bring you a Christmas wish list, hopefully it will get to Santa in time! http://maxair2air.com/ Enjoy, Max Haynes, MaxAir2Air Pictures

Former Illinois air base still soaring from Diamond Pilots by TheKathrynReport | "Wow, Dad, look at that airplane!" Dad had no time to react before his young son took off toward an F-105 Thunderchief, a supersonic bomber nicknamed Thud in Vietnam. It's one of more than 30 aircraft parked in the hangar and out on the tarmac that prompt shouts of joy — and some tears — at the Chanute Air Museum. ( Read more... )

Video: The Shepherd - 1- Christmas story told by Alan Maitland - Part One from Diamond Pilots by TheKathrynReport | By: rsensorat3 "First of four parts of the Christmas story "The Shepherd" written by Frederic Forsyth as told by "Fireside Al" Alan Maitland and broadcast on CBC radio. Audio only: Total time of all 4 parts is 31:37. For those who like to sit down, relax, and listen to a good story.A story of a "shepherd's" heroic act to guide a crippled plane in through Englands East Anglian fog, Christmas Eve 1957. Because I come from a family of pilots, this is a great Christmas story. Dedicated to the men and women, ground crews, flight crews and pilots of the combined air forces flying out the many airfields of eastern England. One of them being my 19 year old uncle, graduate of Gordon Bell, whos Lancaster rumbled off the Scampton airstrip in January 1945 on mission number 14, headed out over the North Sea, and was never seen again. There were thousands like him, one of them being the good shepherd in this story. Also dedicated to Alan Maitland, whose radio stories entertained millions of Canadians over the years. He retired to one of my favourite places, Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia in 1993. (d 1999)" About Alan Maitland: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Mai...

The story of my father and the DH98 from The Flying Scotsman by Ian | My very recently passed mother, never knew my late father when he was in the Royal Air Force during WW2 - the age gap between them just about was enough to make him her own (albeit very young) father. But during his time studying in Edinburgh after the end of the war, the romance blossomed, and the rest is history.
