| | During the summer of 2008, Seattle pilots Doug DeVries and Mark Schoening assumed the controls of their De Havilland Beaver floatplanes and departed Lake Washington for a 10,000-mile circumnavigation of Canada. The 45-day "Great Arctic Air Adventure" took them to the some of the most remote places on Earth; and along the way they met some remarkable people. The two adventurers detailed their trip during an immensely popular program at the Museum in February, 2009. DeVries and Schoening will return with another look at the adventure at 2 p.m. on Dec. 5 in the William M. Allen Theater. Their stories will be illustrated with stunning photos and film clips shown on the theater's big screen. An audience question and answer session follows the program. Also on Dec. 5, Amazing Skies Theater presents "I'll Be Home For Christmas: A Salute to the USO" at 1 p.m. in the Murdock Theater. Free Youth Admission Dec. 1 - 20! The Museum of Flight offers free admission to youths 17 and under from Dec. 1 - 20, through a generous grant from the Norman Archibald Charitable Foundation. Please note that free youth admission does not apply to previously scheduled education programs. Santa arrives by helicopter at 10 a.m. and he and Mrs. Claus visit children in the Great Gallery until 2 p.m. Enjoy holiday music, reindeer, family activities and discounted Museum gift memberships throughout the day. The Museum of Flight, home to the American Fighter Aces Association, is proud to sponsor a panel of aces and combat pilots to share their stories of heroism. Aces Ralph Foltz and "Kelly" Gross will be joined by Ralph Jenkins and Battle of Midway survivor Harry Ferrier. An autograph session will be held after the panel discussion. Dr. Scott Eberhardt of Boeing discusses the performance and technology of World War I fighter aircraft in the Museum's J. Elroy McCaw Personal Courage Wing. The program will include a guided tour of the Museum's WWI fighter aircraft collection and will cover tactics developed during WWI. The history of this plane and others in the Blackbird family of Mach 3 aircraft are explained by a docent during this tip-to-tail tour.
