airventure-oshkosh-09It's the event of a lifetime that happens every year. There is no other conference, convention, tradeshow or whatever you want to call it in any other industry or interest area that comes anywhere close to AirVenture.
EAA and AirVenture are all about engagement. Do you have a particular area of aviation that really turns you on? It's there. Interested in space? You got to see the White Knight 2 fly. Fascinated by the advances in airliners? You saw the huge Airbus 380 do multiple passes, then land and taxi up to the ramp to be available for tours. Interested in antique airplanes? Which one? It's there. Same with warbirds, aerobatic airplanes … you get the idea. ...

Canada Finds Wreck of U.S. Aircraft From World War II - NYTimes.com
Late one November afternoon in 1942, a seaplane belonging to the United States Army Air Corps made two attempts to take off in rough waters near the village of Longue Pointe de Mingan, Quebec. After a large wave opened a leak, the seaplane foundered and sank on the second try. Fishermen who rowed out to the scene rescued only four of the nine crew members.
On Thursday, Parks Canada, a government agency, said an underwater archaeology team had discovered the apparently intact wreck of what it believed to be that American aircraft.
"This plane is a testament to the collaboration between Canada and the U.S. during the Second World War," Christian Paradis, the federal minister of public works, said in a conference call with reporters. "We are committed to managing this site with dignity and respect to the lost American soldiers."

This Is What It Feels Like To Fly In a U2 Spy Plane [Airplanes] from Gizmodo by Jesus Diaz
PopoutI love Top Gear, but when James May gets the opportunity to fly to the edge of space on board a U2 spy plane, my love turns to plain, absolute, complete, overwhelming hate. Bloody good video indeed.
The Lockheed U2 is an amazing plane, developed to spy enemy countries by the CIA and the United States Air Force. Flying at 70,000 feet, the U2 can fly day or night, rain or sun, photographing ground facilities on very short notice, something that satellites can't do. It was created in the 50s, flying for the first time in 1955, and despite some being shot down over the Soviet Union, Cuba, and China, the fleet is still in use today. In fact, the successful design outlasted the SR-71 and the secret A-12 CIA spy plane, and will keep flying till 2014 or even later. [Wikipedia] ...

Hungarian Air Force Museum, Szolnok, Hungary 2-8-09. Blog visit/report by Gary Watson
About an hour and half from Budapest by train, is the City of Szolnok. Szolnok has an air force base on the outskirts of the city, to which can be found many great airframes to view. My reason for this visit was to link-up with a member of the museum staff, in order to try and take shots of Soviet writing on their Mig 23MLD in the hope that I could complete the decals on the Mig 23ML I have been painting at Newark of which just needs a few final touches toward...
