Selfridge ANGB Airshow and Open House 2009 - Day 1 from Airspeed by Stephen Force (Steve Tupper)
I considered just posting this picture and leaving it at that. Seriously. The major and the kid sitting there in the cockpit of an F-16 and talking about whatever. This Viper was there on the ramp and they were sending little kids up the ladder (yeah, the ladder and not the air stairs) for a moment or two in the cockpit with the driver. Pretty darned cool. [it is a great photo - ms]
Day 1 of the Selfridge Airshow and Open House is done and it went over pretty well. Overcast skies most of the day and some of the performers had to flatten out their shows, but everyone seemed to enjoy it. If traffic was any indication, attendance is up at least 30-30% this year, similar to attendance figures for other airshows all over the country. ...

Reflection On Budapest via Team Bonhomme #55 Pit-News
I've experienced some odd weeks in my time but that one just about takes the biscuit... For whatever reason I could not get ''in the groove'' with my aeroplane... I was starting to get really worried for Wade and Nigel because they'd got the team really well oiled (Wade with the aeroplane and Nigel with all the organisation and admin) and there was I, flying like a prat! Normally, I start reasonably well in a race week and then gradually improve to post some good times on race day... it started with first training and I was running in 3rd place. No great drama here because first training is always a tester for us to find out exactly how the track lies. Second training I ended up 8th after a two second penalty... 8th! This was definitely going ...

WWII veteran pilot flies again from Military Photos by Lt-Col A. Tack
AN 84-year-old veteran of the second world war returned to the skies again - this time above Naas.
Johnny Wetherall was a pilot with the British Army Air Corps Glider Regiment and the last time he flew was in September 1944 when he piloted a seven-tonne Horsa troop-carrying glider into Arnhem, the Netherlands.
This historic mission was part of Operation Market Garden in which troops attempted to take control of the bridge spanning the Rhine.
This event went down in military history and was the subject of Cornelius Ryan's book "A Bridge Too Far" published 35 years ago and a 1977 film of the same name.
The book told the true story of the doomed attempt by Allied Forces to break through German lines and take several bridges with the main aim of securing the bridge over the Lower Rhine River in what was then occupied Holland.
Under the watchful eye of instructor John Houlihan, Mr Wetherall took the controls of the two-seater glider at the Punchestown Gliding Club and flew for half an hour.
Mr Houlihan praised the veteran's ability and smooth handling of the glider after all those years. ...
