Helsinki International Airshow Photos 2009 from Technorati
Helsinki International Airshow was held on 15-16 August 2009 and here's a dozen photos from Saturday. It is likely that I will update this gallery once I've gone through my photos properly. There is an extra photo of DC-6B in my Helsinki blog. Midnight Hawks of Finnish Air Force were one of the most expected numbers of the show. Just like RAF's Red Arrows, they fly with Hawk jet trainer planes. The event was held at Helsinki-Malmi airport that is going to be closed down in the futur

Red Bull Air Race Budapest Preview from Bleacher Report
The Red Bull Air Race is a sport in change all the time, but one thing that never changes is the fact that Budapest hosts a round.
Budapest has often been equated to the Monaco Grand Prix of the Red Bull Air Race. Like the uniqueness of Monaco in Formula One, Budapest does have a unique feature that no other Air Race has: the start/finish gate, which is not a pair of pylons but instead the Chain Bridge in which the pilot has to fly from underneath to enter the track. ...

sad news from Snow Eagles Air Racing Team
I just got an email tonight, saying one of the 2009 air racers from team 31, has died an in airplane crash Wednesday in Minnesota. Irene was one of the sweetest girls, and the whole team was the nicest girls. Irene, you will be missed. Irene was so young looking, everyone thought she was like 18,or younger. I remember sitting behind her on the bus going to the Iowa aviation museum, and finding out she was married and she was at least 20, and she has a kid and I was like no,you don't look over the age of 18. This is the second female pilot I have known to have crashed this year, and not survive. Chandy from Lincoln, Nebraska was the first, she was practicing for an airshow I was going to go to, and everyone kept trying to talk me into asking her to race, since she was one of top aerobatic performers, and I never got the chance to.

After his landing Mr Lewis was saved a second time when he rolled towards the edge of the hangar roof - and the twisted canopy of his reserve chute, which had also failed to open properly, snagged on bolts, saving him from a further 50ft fall. ...
