Huey Insertion — full scale diorama  from Travel for Aircraft | SSGT Howard C. Breedlove photographed a hilltop insertion of troops on 24 April 1967. These photographs — taken during Operation Oregon and about 3km west of Duc Pho, Vietnam — give us an intimate view during the hilltop landing of one of the squads belonging to Rifle Platoon B, 1st Squadron, 9th Air Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division — and became one iconic images that now symbolize the Vietnam War.  Crossed sabers on the Huey’s nose denote the Air Cavalry and this diorama shows what helicopters do best, landing where no one else can quickly go…

What’s foxy and French, and a ‘Friend’ of Sally B? The Fennec  from Shortfinals's Blog by shortfinals | ‘Sally B and Friends’ at the Imperial War Museum’s Duxford Airfield in Cambridgeshire on July 31st was a thunderous success. There was the thunder of heavy piston engines, with several unique formations flying by (B-17, DC-3, Beech 18, Beech Staggerwing, for example) and thunderous applause from the crowd for everything from the aerobatic displays to the period music. I was delighted to be there, and I can confidently state despite the fact that it was billed as ‘not a flying display’, that I have attended flying displays that had less flying (especially warbirds), and much less in the way of ‘ground entertainment’ including period vehicles, re-enactors in uniform and music of the WW2 era…
