Iruma Base Air Show 2010 by tokyobling | t's this time of the year again, the annual Iruma Base Air Show! I try to go every year but this year and last we were able to enjoy fantastic weather and a brilliant blue sky with just enough clouds to make it interesting. Iruma City is in the south of Saitama prefecture, north of Tokyo. It is one the biggest Japanese Air Force bases and houses both fighter squadrons, helicopter battalions and Patriot Missile batteries. Quite interesting! Every year in November they stage a small festival and open their gates to interested visitors from Japan and abroad…

San Antonio Airfest - The B-52 Bomber by atmtx | Last Sunday, I headed down to San Antonio's Lackland Airforce Base for the 2010 Airfest with a couple of photography friends. We started at 7:30 from Austin and got to the Air Force base early — early enough that I had some time to take some images of the planes on display before the air show started. From the start, I wanted to take two type of photographs. Of course I wanted to get action shots of the airshow itself and for this purpose I brought my Canon 70-200 F4 IS lens. I also wanted to take wide-angle images of the various aircraft with my Sigma 10-20 lens. I also brought a tripod for when I wanted to do some HDRs of the stationary planes…

Video: Blue Angels F-18 Refueling... In The Clouds! by Martt | This video from 2009 would be cool enough if it was just an F-18 sucking up some gas from a KC-135, but it's more than that. It's a Blue Angels, F-18 sucking up some gas! Oh but wait, it gets even better... they're actually flying thru the tops of the clouds while the Blue Angels F-18 is sucking up some gas! And to top it all off (no pun intended), the pilot has added some excellent voice over to explain a little about the refueling process. This is a must see video if there ever was one : )
