The Numbers Are In... And We're a HUGE HIT!
PBS Coverage Smashes Early Expectations
Since May of 2009 when we first released the series trailer our goal has been to build anticipation in the hope of launching the show to as big an audience as possible. With independent productions on public television, individual stations choose to broadcast the show on their own schedule with relatively few stations airing at first followed by a gradual climb to a peak.
Our expectations for the whole of season one was to air on 100 of the 356 stations. Again, this is what we were trying for throughout the ENTIRE first season. Well, our station carriage data has just come in and has absolutely blown us away!
At the present time, The Aviators is airing on a whopping 51.12% of stations (that's 182) and this does NOT count stations that are still making plans to air the series over the next few months - like LA's KCET, America's #2 public television station. In just it's first month, episodes of The Aviators have already aired an unbelievable 2,762 times in the United States alone!
There's still a long way to go though... you know, with that whole "glass half-full or half-empty" thing. We are still working hard to make sure those of you who AREN'T getting The Aviators yet will get it soon. And we can't say it often enough, YOUR EMAILS COUNT! The Aviators is an International Hit Too!
In
Canada, the measure of a reasonably "successful" television show is the 100,000 viewer mark. A single episode of The Aviators in Canada TRIPLES that with an incredible 299,000. This is while in a challenging Saturday midday time slot, and does NOT count the province of British Columbia where Global does not air the show (CHEK does).
As we've previously reported, The Aviators signed a deal with
Discovery Channel in their central and southwest Asian markets including
India. Discovery Asia will start airing The Aviators in
April 2011.
But it doesn't end there! Broadcast deals have also been reached in
Russia, Italy, and Israel and further deals are in the works in Sweden and the United Kingdom as well as with additional broadcasters in Russia, India, and the Middle East region.

Meet The Aviators at AOPA Summit, Nov. 11-13
