OSHKOSH WI- A quick look around the grounds today revealed an exciting new look for 2009 at AirVenture 2009. A new main gate entrance was dedicated Sunday with two Pratt and Whitney 1830 engine-and-propeller sculptures.
"This entrance is the start of a journey to keep Oshkosh the premier aviation event in the world." Poberezny said. "When designing the entrance, maintaining the culture but still keeping it fresh and modern was kept in mind."
All though AirVenture are seen additional new benches for resting, flushing toilets, new signage and specially planted green shade areas. The "Brown Arch" the original and traditional entry to the Oshkosh flightline in 1971 is now a meeting area complete with engraved bricks, benches and landscaping. Bricks may be purchased to leave your mark at the Brown Arch by visiting the Brown Arch tent or the EAA Welcome Center for details. ...

Dick Knapinski does a fabulous job with the EAA media department and it's easy for a journalist here on media credentials (this year it's for this blog via RV Builder's Hotline) to feel guilty for not working harder to dig up stories. The LED Aero folks are catering a luncheon here in the press tent in a few minutes. I don't accept free food (other than some water) so I'm vacating to make the rounds on the grounds and see what average folks I can run into.
But the EAA deserves great credit for its effort to get people to tell the story of aviation. It's important to note that the organization does not pressure media in any way to bend the message of any of the "working media." ...

A Dyess B-1 Bomber, C-130 and its air crews and maintainers returned July 21 from a 6-day trip to England in support of the world's largest air show, the Royal International Air Tattoo.
The B-1 and the C-130 were sure crowd pleaser' s, having the aircrew' s on their feet for two days explaining each aircraft and giving tours.
"I feel privileged to be here because not a lot of Airmen get to do this kind of thing, and see all the different things here or participate in events like this," said Senior Airman Michael Thomas, 40th Airlift Squadron.
