HOLLAND WINS ADVANCED WORLD AEROBATIC CHAMPIONSHIP - ICAShq.org
ICAS member and air show performer won first place in the Advanced World Aerobatic Championship in Pendleton, Oregon, earlier this month. Flying his MX2 against 33 other competitors from 13 other countries, Holland beat out Tamas Illes of Hungary and Eddie Goggins of Ireland with a total of 7381.44 points. The U.S. team of Holland, Todd Whitman and Hector Ramirez also finished first place in the team competition. South Africa and Great Britain finished second and third, respectively.

Bob Carlton IS a rocket scientist, so nobody was too surprised when he started musing about the possibility of putting a jet engine with 225 pounds of thrust onto a 620 pound, fully aerobatic Salto sailplane. But, on August 1, his jet-powered Super Salto sailplane actually flew. “It will be able to not only self launch, but perform vertical aerobatics immediately after takeoff,” says Carlton. “It will be the first and only sailplane capable of a ground start aerobatic routine.” But his old company name – Silent Wings Airshows – no longer fits the speed, power and noise of the Super Salto. So, he’s changing the name of his air show organization to Vertigo Airshows.
