Nathan G. Gordon dies at 92 Nathan Green Gordon's story reads like something from an epic war novel. As a World War II PBY pilot he landed time and again, in tumultuous seas, under fire from Japanese troops on a nearby beach, to rescue 15 fellow Americans from likely death. That was just an early chapter in the life of the former Arkansas lieutenant governor and Medal of Honor recipient. Read more...

Surrender Dorothy, Part II
I didn't realize there would be a part two, but there was. The answer to my last question was "yes". Emma saw the sky-writer from her school and got excited about the airshow too. We decided that I would take the kids and go, though my wife had other commitments. I was a little nervous about handling all three kids in an unfamiliar situation like that, but I needn't have worried. They were terrific. The airshow was...loud. Very, very loud. When we first arrived there was a flight of six F-15E's

Aviation Airshow Air Race Photography Discussion - Steven Hinton and his Wingman from http://www.aafo.com/ Steven Hinton and his Wingman
This was mentioned in another thread by "deepsky" and he should get the credit. For those of you who were not able to attend, a really cool, touching thing took place Sunday during the Silver cool down. Young Steven was orbiting high above in Sparky and with all other racers down and safe, his father Steve, in the T-33 joined up on his right wing and they flew together. I hope a lot of you guys who were there saw this. It will be a lasting memory, and there are many, for me of Reno '08.
Aviation Airshow Air Race Photography Discussion - The power of the #7
from http://www.aafo.com/ The power of the #7
A number of wierd coincidences (of the type that I've experienced all my life) involving the number 7 came up last weekend. First off, it was my 7TH Reno that I've been to and on Sat evening I told Tiger I was giving him good Mojo to win on Sunday as it was my 7th trip up there. He was pretty chuckled to hear that and said "I like that". We hung out on the field till around 945 and ended up hitching a ride with an airline pilot.. it was 7 of us all stuffed into this small dodge wagon (with me in the trunk portion...yikes!) The 7 somehow ended up including Tiger and Sherman, and on the way there we overheard Tiger talking on the phone with LD about some last minute minor issues that had cropped up. It was totally cool to walk back to the car and ask Tiger some questions. On the way to the race sunday, it was again 7 people in my group riding up to Stead in the car (not the same 7 from the night before.) After the win, I realized it was Tiger's 7th win. Then I went to speak with Karen Hinton and she told me SteveO was the 7th pilot to fly Strega and Strega was SteveO's 7th Mustang he's flown. Sheesus folks you just can't make this stuff up. Not making a big deal of it...and I'm not going to call Art Bell, but still, it's pretty cool anyway.
